Hi I am traveling with a friend to Ireland for the first time at the end of June. We arrive on June 27th. I'm wondering about some good places to eat. Would like ideas with a variety of prices if possible. Also my friend is a VERY picky eater so any help there is greatly appreciated. Thanks

You shouldn't have any problems. You can find Guinness just about everywhere, and it's pretty reasonably priced.

Ireland is an entire country! Are you looking for specific restaurant recommendations in specific locations or general ideas such as stick to local pubs or some such thing? And prices vary as much as they do in nearly every other country I've visited - cheap fast food, reasonable pub-grub, or more expensive restaurants. If you could narrow down your question a little more, you'd probably get more helpful answers.

One suggestion, though, if you're staying at B&Bs is to ask your hostess there - she'll know all the local places.

Budman has it half right, Guinness is great food but it hasn't been reasonable since they did away with the Pound.

Clarify what you mean by a VERY picky eater. (I don;t eat organ meats and I have friends who consider that very picky.)

Does that mean only one or two specific foods? Only meat - no veggies? Food allergies??? Or only certain cuisines? If you specify maybe someone can help for Dublin.

Two places I've been in Temple Bar are the Shack, which serves both traditional Irish dishes like Irish stew and other food, and Trastevere, a good Italian restaurant. Even a picky easter could would be happy at either place. If you're feeling more adventurous, I really like Mao, which is a bit of a hike from there. It's a trendy pan-Asian restaurant east of Grafon not far from Stephen's Green, as I recall.

I second The Shack in Temple Bar. The food was very good with a good variety on the menu.

I have not eaten in the shack but friends visiting liked it. I think you can do better for the money. YTrastevers I would NOT reccommend. Very touristy not great Italian restaurant. Mao is good and not far at all it's off Grafton street. If you cross the millenium bridge from temple bar you will see the Bloom quater in from of you with a good italian restaurant (Bar Italis and go further in the laneway there is a pizza shop, Pannini shop, 2 wine bars that both serve good simple food at a good price. I like the Carvery lunch at Madigan's on Middle Earl Street. I know it's not in the Temple Bar area but you may be in the neighborhood buying souvenirs at Carroll's on O'Connell Street (nearby).
