First time in Rome

I am a secretary for a church and we are planning a trip to Rome and Assisi in May 2006. I was asked to lead the group along with my pastor. What do I have to know.
Please give my ideas to make this a wonderful time for my parish.

How many people are planning on travelling? Are you doing this all yourself or will you be utilizing a travel agent for any of the details?

Also, do churches have "sister churches" that can help with suggestions/logistics?

maryd1, Asking "What do I need to know?" leaves many unknowns.
There are many people here who can give you lots of help, but they need much more information from you!

How many people in the group?
What is your budget per night for hotel (exact dollar or euro amount would help) and how many people per room?
How many days in each city?
How do you plan to travel between cities?
Are you flying into and out of Rome?
How much do you want to spend on meals?
In Rome especially, do you plan to do a lot of walking or take the bus or metro or taxi?
The more information you give, the better help you will receive. Hope you have a great trip!

I am using a travel agent.
We will be in Rome for 6 nights and 1 Assisi 1 night Subiacco. 40 people will be coming. Most of them will be approx. 50+ years old. we will be using the tour bus in the morn and early afternoon but then we are on our own.

The trip is about $2000. thanks

Icon Tours offers very reasonably priced tours of all Rome attractions. Check out their website at www.icontours.com. Good luck!

Do a search here and a Slowtravel. You'll find lots of info. Make sure and see St. Francis' church outside the walls of Assisi.
There's a lot to see in Rome, much of it with Christian influence.
Here's some thoughts:
-See the "normal" sites and add Paul's prison when you are at the Forum.
-Nero's house would also be good when you plan to visit the coloseum.Reserve the group in advance.
-Hire tour guides. I believe one group has a tour called "Christian Rome".
