First Trip to Rome, Apartment rental
Hi, I am planning a trip to Rome for the end of June, it will be my first! Any suggestions? Also, I have rented an apartment with Comfortitalia.com. Has anyone rented from them? Any thoughts? Thanks, Isabel

Right.
Is it hard to get in and out of the airports? Is it like London in that the Tube is really easy to manuever? Hopefully, its a walking city also, so where do you start? Are Tours the way to go? . Thanks. Isabel

Hi isabelarrastia, I consider Rome a wonderful city to walk in. I feel it is the only way to enjoy it. If you use the search box here on Fodors you will find that a lot of travellers that give us trip reports regarding their visits to Rome walk a lot. There are so many beautiful sites and sights that cannot be properly enjoyed unless one does walk.
Now at the end of June Rome can be very hot and humid. If it is then I would strongly suggest you get up early in the morning and do your sightseeing, then go and have your lunch about 1:00pm and after that consider maybe taking a siesta to get out of the hot humid air. After your rest a nice cool shower always feels wonderful and is refreshing.
Then around 4:00pm slowly start out again, stop somewhere at an outdoor cafe and have a cold drink and enjoy the people watching inbetween your afternoon sightseeing. Then plan on dinner around 9:00pm. Chose a restaurant that isn't just a "tourist" restaurant. Go where you see the locals go too. And make your dinner a long relaxing one while you enjoy just sitting back and soaking in the atmosphere of the local scene. And the food and wine I would imagine you will really enjoy too.
Then about midnight you will probably be ready for bed. And the next morning get up early again and go out in the cool morning air to investigate Rome some more.
With a siesta after your lunch (as the Romans that can do) you will not feel so draggy and overwhelmed with Rome and the heat and all the tourist.
Have a beautiful trip!

The Rome metro is not nearly as extensive as the tube in London. There are only two lines, as whenever they dig in Rome they run into more ancient ruins in their way. There is, however, an extensive bus system, and the stops for each bus are posted on signs at the bus stops.
Walking tours can be useful for places such as the Forum and the Vatican. Many people here have raved about tours by Context Rome (www.contextrome.com); they are pricey though. I have taken tours with Enjoy Rome (www.enjoyrome.com) and found them quite interesting.

go to the Slow Travel website: http://slowtrav.com to check out the comfortitalia agency.
slowtrav has almost 20 reviews for them sent in by previous renters; the reviews look quite positive.
(your apt. might even be reviewed!

Re transport from the airport to the centre of Rome: It can be quite easy. I would take the train -- faster and more certain than a taxi.
One express goes to the central station. But there are also local trains from the airport to Trastevere, Tiburtina, central station and even continuing beyond, to the far side of Rome
