Lee -
My husband and I stayed there in May and we were really happy with the choice. The hotel was very nice (yes they have air conditioning) and in a wonderful location. A very short walk to the central station and Tivoli Gardens. The Stroget was a little farther, but really not bad at all. I definitely recommend staying there - and have a great trip!

Hello Rachel
Thanks so much for the feedback. I'm keen to stay at First Vesterbro it looks nice on the web & I'm happy to hear that you enjoyed your stay there. But... have heard that the area surrounding the hotel may not be conducive (something about other seedy hotels and bars) for a lone female traveller who intends to stroll to most attractions via foot. From the guidebooks I've read, it doesn't show.
May I check if this is true ?

Once again, thanks for taking the time to reply my posting.

Lee,
I didn't feel uncomfortable at all - though I was with my husband the whole time. We did walk down the Vesterbro in the direction opposite of the central station and there really wasn't anything interesting there. Maybe that is what you heard? It wasn't the nicest part of town, but I don't remember any particularly seedy hotels nearby. I think you would be fine at this hotel - I just wouldn't go in the other direction, mostly just b/c there wasn't anything there worth seeing, not because it felt dangerous. I don't know if you have been to Copenhagen before, but it is such a beautiful city and my husband commented several times that it seemed to be extraordinarily safe. People leave their bicycles all over without locking them, and there doesn't seem to be a big problem with that. The hotel is a block or two away from the central station area. You might be more comfortable at one of the other hotels that is right next to the station - there were quite a few. But if you do end up at the First Hotel Vesterbro, I really think you will be fine.

Hi Rachel
Many thanks for the reassurance. I'll be just fine at the hotel and will go ahead & book it. I had a stopover in Copenhagen for the first time last Aug but only for 2 days. It's a lovely city and I look forward to a longer stay this time.
When I return, will post my comments. You've been very kind to share the info, I'm very grateful for the help. Have a nice weekend !

Hi Rachel

A little note to say I enjoyed my stay at First Hotel Vesterbro in Copenhagen. Thanks so much for the recommendation.

For the benefit of others, here's my comments in case you are looking for a hotel in Copenhagen.
- The location was good, about 10mins walk to the start of the Stroget, along the way, you'll pass the Central train station, Tivoli and lots of cafes (including Hard Rock) & restaurants.
- Rooms have various facing. The first we had faced some buildings on a side street and the second faced a courtyard of some private apartmts. Both were reasonably sized and quiet. Decor modern and rooms clean. Had air con, safe, iron & board & minibar.
- for those with rental cars, they have a car park attached to hotel.
- it's a big busy hotel with tour groups moving in & out but once you get to the room, you don't hear much traffic noise.

In terms of location, value for money and service, I much prefer this to the Admiral Hotel.

Hi Lee, we just returned from a trip that inc. a stay at this hotel, great location to Tivoli, there are enough people on the street at night that it shouldn't be a problem for you from there. I would recommend a cab however back from the Stroget area because of the distance. Although our room was quiet, somewhat small, there was a sewer smell that never left and although we notified the desk, it was never corrected. We never insisted on a room change which we should have. Judy
