FERRY SERVICE FROM ITALY TO GREECE
Hi!
Going to be in Italy, the eastern side, with our motorcycle and would like to know of anyone who has taken a ferry between the 2 countries with their vehicle??
We would like to arrive in Athens or nearby without too much trouble. Cost and hassle???
Thanks!!

There are ships from Venezia, Ancona, Bari and Brindisi. The nearest port to Athens is Patra. There are several operators including these:

I've made the crossing several times with and without a car. No hassle. Drive on board. The crew will probably park it for you. Cost can be found on the ship operator's web sites. I strongly recommend that you buy your tickets and bunk reservations directly from the ship operator and not from a broker. I bought mine at the dock. They were overnight ferries. It is a few hours drive from Patra to Athens, plus whatever sightseeing you want to do.

There are several different ferry companies (ships vary a bit) so rooms would depend which port you pick and which companies are operating from that port. I've used Superfast from Bari to Patras, but did not take a vehicle.

The ships are modern and cabins normally have bunk beds and a bathroom with a shower and WC. The ships have lounges, bars, restaurants, sun decks and, usually, a small pool.
The fares are on the ferry companies' websites. For two people, you want a two-berth cabin. Inside cabins (with no natural light) are cheaper than outside cabins (with a windor or porthole). Myself, I only use a cabin for sleeping and washing so wouldn't pay extra for an outside one: if I want to look out of a window, I'll go to a lounge. The cabins on the modern ships are all above the vehicle decks, not low down in the ship.
