My friend and I will be in Italy in October. We plan to visit Greece in the beginning of November for about two weeks.
Does anyone know of the cheapest and safest way to get from Italy to Greece?We've done some research on ferries and airlines, but most were expensive. We prefer to leave the southern part or Rome Area of Italy to the Athens or Patras area of Greece.

I don't think the ferry takes tow days. You board around 7-8 pm (it departs about 10 pm) and you arrive the next day before lunch. The Superfast ferries depart Bari for Patras and there are others from Bari and Brindisi. If you will have an Italy/Greece railpass, they are good for one way free on the ferry (deck passage only -no accommodation unless your railpass is 1st class).

Kybourbon is right. It's an overnight journey from Bari to Patra with Superfast Ferries, and they usually have a connecting bus from Patra to Pireas and Athens.
From Ancona, the ferries take about 20 hours to Patra, and from Venezia it's about 30 hours.

I have taken the SuperFast from Bari to Patra. You can get a first-class cabin inside or outside or you can get a ticket to sit in a seat. There is a restaurant and a cafeteria on the SuperFast, and also a disco and bar/lounge. There is also a small swimming pool and outside bar.

The SF travels overnight (I think it the SF leaves Bari around 6ish) and docks in Patra in the morning.
