Feedback on Itinerary
Hi fellow travelors, After reading many of your posts and three travel books we have come up with the following itinerary. We would appreciate your feedback.
Leave US June 7
8,9 Zagreb
fly out 10th to Pula
10,11,12 Roving
rent car 11th
drive to Plitvice by way of Opatija,Rijeka
13, 14 B&B just outside Plitvie
15 Zadar
16,17 Sibenik (day at Krka National Park)
18,19 Split (visit Trogir, Solin, Klis on
way there)
turn car in 19th
20, 21 Havr Town
22,23 Korculla (maybe a day trip to Mljet)
24, 25, 26 Dubrovnik (ferry there)
27th back to US
Couple questions: Should we cut a day off the islands and add it to Dubrovinik?
Has anyone done any rafting on the River Cetina or Zrmanja?
Any good B&B's in above locals?
Thanks for any feedback?
Teresa

Your itinerary looks great. I do not have much to add except that I would rent a car while in Rovinj and explore Istria a bit more (Pula, Porec, Motovun in the countryside).
Spend at least half a day in Opatija.
Sibenik for me is nothing special comparing to Split, Zadar or Dubrovnik, but since you are planning a day at Krka this makes sense. Maybe you could also visit Kornati national park near Sibenik, which is also a beautiful day sailing trip. Many travel agents offer sailing excursions to Kornati.
You can cut a day on Korcula and visit Mljet from Dubrovnik.

Thanks Jobas, We definately plan to go to Porec but figured we'd do that by bus and then go by bus to Porec and explore before we get the car. Then we'd have have a little time to see some of the hill towns or maybe head through Istiria that direction on our way to Opatija in route to Plitvice. We figured we wouldn't get to Sibenik until late in the day and want a full day to see both lakes at Krka. We'd then head out first thing in the morning. I had wanted to do a sailing trip to Kornati but couldn't talk my husband into it.I'll show him your recommendation. Good idea to do Mljet from Dubrovnik. Is it worth seeing?

Hi Teresa, you could do Porec by bus. Bus service is extensive in Istria and throughout Croatia for that matter. You can cover Motovun and Opatija in one day by car on your way to Plitvice.
As for Sibenik, few hours are enough. Sibenik Cathedral is a must. For me it is one of the most beautiful churches in Croatia. Kornati are beautiful, if you are into hundreds of small islands and islets, mostly bare. Excursions are mostly organized with old wooden ships, including a fish meal in one of the archipelago?s restaurants and swimming in secluded coves. But you will have to add one more day in Sibenik if you want visit both Krka and Kornati.
Mljet is definitively worth a visit. Atlas travel agent in Dubrovnik organize day excursions. If I would have to choose between Kornati and Mljet, I would choose Mljet which has a lush vegetation and walking around salt water lakes is really nice.
No problem about mistyping my name, I?m not sensitive on such things.

Hi Jonas, After rereading about Krka, realized I'd refered to it as lakes whereas it's a river. I wanted to see the two sets of waterfalls. Rough Guide said to plan for the whole day there to do the full boat trip but I wonder if we got on the first boat out if we would then have time to drive to Trogir for the night instead of spending another night in Sibenik. Also had planned to do the day trip to Montenegro but my husband says it is unsettled in that area right now and it might not be safe. Any thoughts? Thanks again for your help. Teresa

Teresa, I think you can do both Krka and Trogir (in the evening), especially since you?ll be having a car, so no problem there.
As for Montenegro many previous posters here said that there are no problems and it is completely safe. The best would be to go with Atlas travel agency from Dubrovnik, which has organized day trips to Montenegro by bus. That way you?ll be hassle free at the border and you will not have to worry about rent a car insurance because many rent a car agents would not let you take the car into Montenegro or if they do most likely they will not cover the insurance.

Jonas, Thanks for all your help! I think we'll do the second night in Trogir instead of the two in Sibenik. Do only one night in Korcula and then we can decide if we want to do Montenagro or Mljet. Maybe check with the state department before we leave. I read at least one post that someone felt Korcula was just a miniture Durovinik and not a necessary stop.

Hi Jonas, if you are there, I'd like to pick your brain again. As you suggested, we have cut our stay in Korcula to one day and added that to Dubrovnik to make four nights. I read an earlier post of yours that Korcula was very similar to Dubrovnik and for that person to skip it. Now, they seemed to have less time than us but... would we be better off spending that extra night in Hvar, making it 3 nights or in Dub. making it 5 nights or leave in the night in Korcula? We also are having a hard time finding a moderate place to stay in Split and Sibenik. Also haven't found one in Korcula but really haven't looked hard yet because of our indecision. Hope you or someone else can help. Thanks.
