Le Creuset - France
Is Le Creuset that much cheaper when bought in France compared to North America. I have a 24 "dutch oven" and would like a larger one - I will be in France later in the year and if they are cheaper will buy there. i know they are heavy but I will be in Business Class (so extra baggage) and will have other half with me to shlep!

You won't mind lugging that heavy cookware? Sorry to suggest this but don't outlets sell this? I guess I'm looking at the inconvenience of carrying and storing this heavy cookware on a plane in comparison to the cost and to me it would not be worth the trouble.

For what I want cheapest i have found here is $240 (Canadian) for one v large pan. If it is much cheaper in Paris and quite happy to buy on last day there and throw into suitcase.
I brought back a 10 kilo carved head from South Africa - my partner thought I was completely loony. In fact when he saw me notice it he wasn't worried becuase he assumed it was too heavy - wrong!!! It looks wonderful and worth the effort (very little) of checking one extra box.

You may find that Le Creuset is also expensive in France. You might want to do some advance checking with a shop like Dehillerin so you don't waste precious vacation time running around Paris looking for a good price. You could also check the Internet for prices, at places like cooking.com.
Does anyone know whether Monoprix carries Le Creuset cookware?

I seriously doubt, with the value of the dollar, that you'll find a Le Creuset bargain in Paris. That said, some shops to check out are:
A. Simon, 36 rue Etienne-Marcel and 48, rue Montmartre
Casa, 92, rue Saint-Lazaare
De Choses et d'Autres, 2 rue Gounod
Verrerie de la Bastille, 62 rue de la Roquette.
Depending on where you live in the USA, I think you're more likely to find a bargain at someplace like Marshall's or TJMaxx, both of which carry Le Creuset from time to time - but hunting down exactly what you're looking for can be time-consuming.

I have purchased a great deal from the store in Oregon both there and over the phone and have always been very happy with price and quality. Maybe give the closest store a call and get pricing on the item you want.

I agree with Digital..check the website he gave for your nearest outlet. I am fortunate to live near to one . I recently purchased #26 , which retails at about $225.00 for$80.00. Even with shipping , I doubt if you could find it cheaper in France.

I've bought mine on e-bay from a canadian retailer where I got a great deal-free shipping and a good exchange rate-never been used, still in the original packing so you might want to check that out too. I've also purchased from the outlet for better than standard retail.

A friend was in Paris for a year and bought several LC's to bring back, saying they were a great deal. Unfortunately they were lost in shipping. So go to caplanduval.com and order there. EVEN with shipping their prices are excellent. There are other enamel cast iron brands in France also. I saw lots at neighborhood hardware stores. Another source for good deals is the Amazon Friday Sale that often has LC on sale.

Well, Wombat7, since you're Canadian,
check out the Winner's Homesense stores.
I've bought a huge Paul Bocuse dutch
oven for under $100.Cdn. I've also
seen LC there for great prices but I
wanted a specific colour so bought
the other brand (forget the actual
name).
Business class or no, those puppies are
HEAVY!

Daniel Bolud has started his own line of enamel cast iron. It is on Amazon at great prices and nice colors. Even in the outlets the big ovens are very expensive. Actually we bought a 7.5 qt. LC for a wedding gift and the price at Sur Le Table was the same as the outlet.

Don't know if you all know, but LC has a lifetime guarantee (or at least they did!) About a year ago we returned a large dutch oven that we had used for years and worn off the enamel inside. We mailed them the old one and got a beautiful brand spanking new one, same color. (Flame was the big color all those years ago when we bought ours.)
