Favorite Seville Restaurants

What is your favorite restaurant in Seville?<BR>My son is studying there and we plan to visit in late March.

Marilyn,<BR><BR>We enjoyed several lovely meals while in Sevilla. For tapas, in the Cathedral area, we went to Casa Robles and had a great fried fish selection (a specialty in Andalucia), a selection of Andalucian cheeses, smoked tuna and finally some green beans with ham. La Hosteria del Laurel is also wonderful. We had a full meal in the dining room which included some incredible whole fish baked in a salt shell (the fish itself was NOT SALTY AT ALL!), gazpacho and an avocado salad. Then a few days later we went back for tapas at the bar which included fabada asturiana, queso manchego, swordfish and then mushrooms in garlic sauce. For a more formal dinner, La Albahaca was great and the chocolate mousse dessert was out of this world. Finally, on the way toward La Basilica de La Macarena which is an absolute DO NOT MISS sight in Sevilla, we happened upon a neighborhood bar called El Rinconcillo (the little corner) and loved everything including the spinach with garbanzos, tortilla of asparagus, ham croquettes and paella which is just called rice (arroz) on the menu. (It may have been on the way to the Plaza de Toros it is near the Iglesia de Santa Catalina and the Plaza de los Terceros.)<BR><BR>Good Luck!!<BR><BR>Maria

Marilyn,<BR>Here are our favorites:<BR><BR>For delicious tapas served in little earthenware casseroles at the bar that make a 5 star meal, &quot;Casablanca&quot; on Zaragoza #50, to the left of the Hotel Inglaterra. Just survey what the natives are having and follow suit. Extremely popular with locals.<BR>There's a tiny dining room in the back, but you MUST reserve a day in advance. Otherwise, just stand at the bar like the locals do. No bar stools.<BR><BR>For impeccable fried fish (&quot;pesca&iacute;to frito&quot and tiny scallops (&quot;coquinas&quot in an irresitible garlic/wine sauce, &quot;Bar Modesto&quot; on Cano y Cueta # 5 in the Barrio Santa Cruz, near the Casas de la Juderia hotel and the Murillo gardens.<BR>Extremely busy and ever popular.<BR><BR>For elegant, splurge dining in a beautfiul setting-a conservatory type dining room with fine service, we head straight to the Basque &quot;Ega&ntilde;a Oriza&quot;, on San Fermando #41, whose walls are attached to the Alc&aacute;zar and across from the University of Seville building which was the Tobacco factory of the opera Carmen fame.<BR><BR>For another nice, upscale meal of inventive Basque cuisine, the &quot;Taberna del Alabardero&quot; on Calle Zaragoza.<BR><BR>For great tapas in the Triana district, across the Guadalquivir, we head to &quot;La Albariza&quot; on Betis #6 also &quot;Poncio&quot; in Triana on Calle Victoria #8-both have been featured in the Dining In section of the NY Times. <BR><BR>For a great, dependable meal downtown near the Cathedral and the Casas de los Mercaderes Hotel, like Maria, we also enjoy &quot;Casa Robles&quot; on Placentines #2<BR><BR>And right across from the Hoster&iacute;a del Laurel on the prettiest little square in the Barrio de Santa Cruz, the Plaza de los Venerables, we go to &quot;Casa Rom&aacute;n&quot; for our daily ration of delectable Spanish ham-jam&oacute;n Jabugo. <BR><BR>And like Maria, we can also recommend the romantic and very pretty La Albahaca in the Barrio Santa Cruz.<BR>
