Virtually any ("full service" bank can get them for you - - but they might need 7-12 days, and you might pay anywhere from $5-20 (per hundred) as a premium - - compared to getting them from the ATM when you arrive.

Ask your own bank. I just got a few Swiss Franc from Bank of America downtown branch in Seattle. A $5 service charge and normal exchange rates. Usually I wait and simply withdraw from an ATM upon arrival.

I find it helpful to have a starter supply of local currency, so I don't absolutely have to use the ATM at the airport when I'm jet lagged and carrying luggage and want to get where I'm going, often rushing to get a train. Then for the rest of the trip, I get them at local ATMs.

Totally unnecessary in the year 2004...you can easily use the ATM's or if by some chance they're not working (not very likely) you can use the exchange booth and get a far better rate than you will get in the US.

I purchased some at Thomas Cook for my first trip. For a small fee I had the insurance to sell back an amount upto what I had purchased. I do not feel the need to do this again, ATM's are everywhere.
