euros before i go?

Where can I get some Euros before I leave the states?

I always get mine at the American Express office in a neighboring town. There may be other options, depending on where you live.

Virtually any ("full service") bank can get them for you - - but they might need 7-12 days, and you might pay anywhere from $5-20 (per hundred) as a premium - - compared to getting them from the ATM when you arrive.

Best wishes,

Rex

You can get them at the airport upon your departure from the U.S. Plan on a hefty exchange rate plus fees.

I always get mine at an ATM when I arrive in Europe. Best fee/best rate. ((b))

Hi ed,

Is there a particular reason why you would wish to pay more to buy euros in the US when you can easily get them at ATMs in Europe?

Ask your own bank. I just got a few Swiss Franc from Bank of America downtown branch in Seattle. A $5 service charge and normal exchange rates. Usually I wait and simply withdraw from an ATM upon arrival.

I'm lucky, I can buy them any day at my bank here in Cambridge at Fleet.

I find it helpful to have a starter supply of local currency, so I don't absolutely have to use the ATM at the airport when I'm jet lagged and carrying luggage and want to get where I'm going, often rushing to get a train. Then for the rest of the trip, I get them at local ATMs.

Thanks guys. I just wanted some Euros to get to my destination and then use the ATMs there.

Totally unnecessary in the year 2004...you can easily use the ATM's or if by some chance they're not working (not very likely) you can use the exchange booth and get a far better rate than you will get in the US.

ok, thanks.

I purchased some at Thomas Cook for my first trip. For a small fee I had the insurance to sell back an amount upto what I had purchased. I do not feel the need to do this again, ATM's are everywhere.
