Thanks, Elberko! Hope they'll be twinkling when we're there in a week!

Whoops! Just reread the story and saw they'll be turned on in June. Waaaa! Guess I'll have to go back.

After posting the link, I read it more closely, and the lights won't be on till June. Maybe they'll have some "practice" light-ups.

Does that mean the tower is not lit at all at night?

Thanks!

This 10 minute "twinkle" is in addition to the regular lights that light up the tower. We saw the twinkles 2 years ago. It was magical.

While we are talking about the lights, does anyone on this board know why the one leg was red, while the others are white?

Those twinkling lights were something else. I was visiting Paris in 2001, with my son and we were staying in a Montmarte hotel, with a lovely view of the Eiffel Tower from our room. We were looking out the window late at night, when suddenly the tower started sparkling. It was awesome and truly one of the most memorable parts of our trip. I'm glad the City is relighting the tower!

When we saw it, all the twinkles were white sparkles, not any red, Keith.

Conan O'Brian had a funny comment about a recent campaign to attract gay tourists to Paris.

"They rolled a couple of huge boulders to the base of the Eiffel tower".

Sorry, the red lights I was talking about were regular ones, not the twinkles.
