easy jet or ryan air?
From Milan to London, which airline would be best, most dependable, do they both fly from Bergamo or do either fly from Malpensa, adn does it matter anyway, it Bergamo that much further out? Thanks for any and all advise and tips.

Bergamo is at more or less the same distance from Milan than Malpensa Airport , only a different direction.
I think Easy Jet is better for that trip, because they fly from Gatwick in London to Linate Airport in Milan which is very near from the city centre. They also fly to Malpensa.
Ryanair flies from Stansted to Bergamo.

For those budget flights, my first question has now become the schedule. I've had my fill of those 6 am flights that mean you have to get up in the middle of the night to get to the obscure airport and check in a couple hours before the flight. I look for more reasonable times if available.
Otherwise, I agree with kenderina's airport assessment.

I flew Easyjet last year and it wasn't bad, sort of like soutwest airlines, in Europe. Price was very cheap AMS to Geneva. Flight was uneventful, which is what you want on this type of flight.
Beware, they are very strict on weight limits.
NeoPatrick is correct, check those schedules. You can easily book from the U.S.
Also check the Bergamo airport departures (go to the airport's web site) to see what flies from there to london. Linate is a good choice if you are in or near Milan.

Ryanair also charge a fee if you use a CC to do the booking - and it's per person per flight, ie 2 people on a return trip = 4 CC payments.
They are also very good at adding "optional" extras to the final bill and finding the means to remove these "options" may not be obvious
