Easter Sunday in Paris

We arrive in Paris Saturday night and will be there until Wed. when we go on to Barcelona. Both DH and I have been to Paris many times and of course I've done TONS of research, mostly here since you all are the best. Still have a few questions:

Should I purchase Museum Passes on the Internet before going, or will we be able to get them at Metro stops or such on Sunday?

Both DH and I love classical music, but neither of us are religious (well, I'm very reform Kaballistic Jewish, he's agnostic), but am wondering if we should at least try a service (maybe stay in the back or even outside) for the music. If so, what would you recommend?

Should we make dinner reservations in advance on line for that night?

Do you think the museums are going to be packed that day. If so, which do you think would be the least packed of the following:
l'Orangerie, Pompidou, d'Orsay, Lourve, and Picasso.

Anything really unique and special (besides just being there) you'd suggest we do that day?

Thanks so much for your suggestions.

My sister and I will also be in Paris on Easter. We are planning to take the Segway tour of the city in the evening. We are hoping to find a nice place for brunch, maybe at the Musee Jacquemart-Andre. The museum website says they will have chocolate eggs hidden all around that day for adults as well as children!

That sounds like so much fun! Chocolate eggs - I'll have to mark that down. My friend and I will also be in Paris during Easter (our first time in Paris!)

I haven't been there on Easter, but on some other holidays, so I'm guessing that the least crowded museums of the ones you list might be the Picasso and Pompdiou. It sure wouldn't be the Louvre or Orsay.

No, you shouldn't buy museum passes on the internet. I don't know where you will be, but you can buy them at any museum on the list or in one of the tourist office outlets. I don't think they sell them in metro stops any more from what I've read, but I don't have any personal experience with that.

I would not go to a Catholic service on Easter because you love classical music. A lot of the music they have in Catholic churches now is really insipid junk and not remotely classical or even good, and yes, I have been to Catholic services in various Paris churches and it is true there as well as other countries. Go to a good concert instead. I don't see the point in going if you are going to stay outside, not sure what you mean by that.

Thanks cristina for the feedback.

What I meant from "outside" was that once we were passing Notre Dam and the organ was playing and we could actually hear it quite well outside the church. Of course, when we stepped inside it was even better. I was thinking of going to a concert at night, so that will undoubtedly be a better experience.

Hi artlover,

A friend and I will also be in Paris that day. We were thinking of taking one of the Paris Walks tours and visiting the Cluny, hoping a smaller museum would be better/emptier. I have been to the Pompidou on Christmas day and it was pretty busy, though not horrible and actually pretty festive.

I'm wondering about dinner, too, though, so if you come up with something great, please do post.

Have a wonderful trip.

I will also be in Paris over Easter and was wondering if most places will be open as usual or closed for the holiday? Truly appreciate the help I get from all of you.

Hi Leely and Paris,

Well, I went on to Le Grand Cafe's website to make a reservation for that night, but haven't heard back yet. I'm not too worried about straving in Paris , but would like to have a reservation. Will let you know when it's confirmed.

Am hoping to get some other good ideas and backups. We're staying in the 7th, near the Rodin Museum, if that helps.

There's always Bofinger - open 365 days of the year. That's what I did on Easter in Paris a couple of years ago.

It was very quiet in the city, I must say, but as the weather was good a wonderful day for just roaming around.

Thanks StCirq, I'll keep this in mind as a backup. (Haven't heard back from Le Grand Cafe yet).
