Cute hotel in Venice (San Marco) for around $150USD

Hi!

We are traveling to Venice this summer on a budget. We are looking for a nice, clean hotel, hopefully with some charm for $150 per night or less.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Best,
Bobbie

Cute and charming in San Marco means doubling your budget.

Bobbie, it will be quite noisy around San Marco. Is there some particular reason you want to stay near there? (Have you been to Venice before?)

It's a little more than your budget, but I don't think you'll find anything better at this late date.. near San Marco.

We never stay near San Marco. There are so many charming neighborhoods and Venice is small so it's not a problem..

This is a place I like very much: http://www.hotelhesperia.com/en/

Nice people, good location, quiet and off the beaten path just enough and around your budget, depending on when you book. I recommend it.

How many is we?

Are you a couple who can share one double bed?

If not - then you will have to find an upgraded room with more beds and US $150 is not very realistic.

What are you willing to give on in terms of ameniites to hold to the budget - AC? private bath? stairs vs elevator?

Hi!

Thanks for the ideas - we have been to Venice, but are staying only one night this time. Its just two of us (me and my husband). WiFi and a comfortable bed are important, A/C too. I'd just like something with a little charm, not dirty or sterile! We are pretty laid back.

I have stayed at Hotel Al Piave. It is quite nice with a good breakfast. It is a short walk to San Marco. It is far enough away to avoid to din but close enough to walk in about 5 minutes. Mid June goes for- 170 Euro. It is booking fast so better hurry, whether you stay here or elsewhere.

Yes, but 170 euros is way above the OPs budget.

150 Dollars equals 108 Euro. If you can find a hotel room (or any studio apartment rental) near Piazza San Marco for 108€ in high season, I would be extremely suspicious and assume the place has questionable issues.

Tourists who ask questions like these clearly do not understand the economy of Venice. The demand for low-priced rooms in Venice is at an all-time high. But owners in Venice are fully aware that selling 100€-a-night rooms in high season is a fool's folly. You can't afford local help if your competition has the ability to pay a little more. Rooms get dirty quickly. You can't afford to include breakfast of any kind. You can't afford to maintain construction and pay for repairs. You can't afford your electric bill. You certainly won't have air conditioning.

Like Bob said, for "a nice, clean hotel, with some charm," you'll need to get realistic about Venice and find more money for your budget. Then you'll need to plan way far in advance, because the most charming rooms in the cheaper category get booked faster than any other rooms.

For just 1 night, you might consider staying on the mainland or possibly on Lido, near easy transportation to Venice proper and get a great deal more for your money. Or consider raising your budget for 1 night. It may come down to one or the other.

There are an amazing number of rooms on Airbnb for under $150. Take a look:

<WiFi and a comfortable bed are important, A/C too + San Marco + summer season>

For your ~100 euro budget, something's going to have to give.

We stayed here a few years ago. About a five-minute walk from San Marco. I'm not really sure what you'd consider charming, but the owner, Lorenzo, is fantastic and we loved our stay there.

And don't forget about the Venice hotel tax, which is PER person and must be paid in CASH.

Keith and I had to pay @50€ when checking out of our hotels---Palazzo Cendon in July, 2013 and Ca Fravetto in June, 2012.
