Please, don't grovel at the ticket window...it isn't necessary

But Dukey, groveling is so much better than arrogance and entitlement! The clerks see plenty of that. Give them a treat!

So with an appropriate amount of groveling, we will be able to change our tickets at the station, yes? I can't pull off highhandedness.

Cjar, it's not just train ticket websites that can confuse. somehow today i managed to book not one but two hire cars from LHR to our home at the end of our trip in December, all due to what was a very confusing website. and of course to get the best price I'd opted for prepay, hadn't I?

wish me luck sorting that out tomorrow!

cjar - you're right. I have found that with italian bureaucracy, persistence pays off. They may try to fob you off, but if you keep going, whilst uttering lots of per favores and grazies, they often relent.

good luck with sorting out your problems.

sorry to hijack your thread, cjar, but you might be interested in the result of my attempts to cancel my extra car: it turned out that there is free cancellation within 7 days of the booking, so i managed to cancel it free of charge.

in the meantime, I realised that I'd got the pick up time wrong on the other one, so I'm in the midst of sorting that out!

You see. I am not the only one creating my very own comedy of errors. Glad it was an easy fix for you. Someone ,please, let me know if you have recently been unable to change to an earlier day on a trenitalia economy fare. I believe that since we are wanting to travel one day earlier I can change it at the station on the day we'd like to travel. If I continue to pursue this from home, I'm afraid I'll be exhausted before we even leave. : ) Also , if we can do this, do you get a PNR or do you need to validate the ticket somehow?

Cjar - i think if most people were honest, they would say that they get things wrong in every trip. in a way we have both been lucky, in that we have spotted what we've done before we got there. my personal nightmare is turning up somewhere to find that I've got the date of the booking wrong, and there's no bed for us. it's easily done with these on-line booking sites [I know, I managed to do it once, and got a message from a hotel in Holland asking where we were!] so I check everything very carefully now, but even so, I still worry about it before we set off on a trip.

Annhig- We'll know soon enough if I'll have any other tales of woe to add to this. We leave in a week. Wish us luck and wonderful memories.

Thanks to everyone who so kindly responded to all of my posts. I couldn't have planned it without you.

Well, console yourself! you were smart enough to go through the agony of the Trenitalia on-line "experience" so you could save money over those absolutely huge mark-ups that horrible "reseller" Italiarail.com charges and do enjoy your trip. And I still say don't grovel at any ticket windows and no, not groveling does not mean being an A**hole and imperious.

I KNOW!! Tell them you are on your honeymoon!!!!
