Dubrovnik hotel

I think think this posting got lost somewhere - but I will try it again.
I will be in Dubrovnik in Sept. for 7 nights - the last 4 will be at the Hotel Argosy outside of the old town. the first 3 nights I already have a reservation at the Hotel Stari Grad but am able to get a room at the Hotel Argentina ( a sea view room in Villa Glavic). The price is not an issue - where should I stay? I want to be able to walk around old town so as to soak up the atmosphere. Which place do you Fodorites recommend????

Take the Argentina, for sure!!!!!!!!
We were there for 5 nights; just back.
See my recent trip report) I am still in the middle of ( click on my name and you'll see it).

You will love it, love it. The walk is an easy 10 minutes,if that into the Old Town.

I give an extensive review of the hotels I visited while in dubrovnik just for this purpose; so many of us are always askign quesiotns about hotels and I thought it would be of help.

If $ is no object, stay at the Argentina( Villa Glavic is just across the street), be sure that the room indeed has a good sea view.

Tripgirl and others are very persuasive about the Argentina. We didn't see that hotel, so I can't comment on it, but it sounds great.

We stayed at the Stari Grad and really loved it. The location is unbeatable if you want to be within the city walls -- right up the Stradun up a little alley a few steps. There's a tiny but charming lobby and a staircase up to the rooms -- I think there are 2 or 3 rooms on each floor. Our room was lovely, bigger than most we've stayed in in Europe, and nicely decorated. Great bathroom and other amenities. Sweet views over the rooftops of Croatia. The highlight, though, is the rooftop terrace. I can send you a picture that we took when we walked the walls of the city -- it looks like the Stari Grad's terrace is the only rooftop terrace in the whole town. You can sit there at night and take it all in (awesome!), and a great breakfast is served there in the morning. The staff were wonderful. I don't think you'll be sorry if you stay at the Stari Grad (or the Argentina!).

Tripgirl - I owe you one. As you know, based on your recommendation and my gut feeling, I switched hotels to the Argentina and I am so glad I did. You were right - it is beautiful. We had a sea view room - everyone was so nice - the breakfast was the yummiest and the short walk into old town made it all worthwhile. We were sorry to leave after 3 nights but had to change to the Argosy in Lapad to meet up with our tour group. It was so nice to be able to relax at the pool after a long day's sightseeing. We dipped in the Adriatic - but not for long as it was rather chilly.

Wasn't the place just special, as you know hotels make ( or break!) my vacations!

So glad that you had a wonderful time and a comfortable stay.

Well - we just came back from hosting our daughter's wedding in Vermont so we need to take a breather for a while. But we plan to spend a week on the beach doing nothing in Playa del Carmen in late Jan. Then off to Copper Canyon in May and then I need to put together a trip to Poland in Sept. What about you?????

Hi Tripgirl,

What plans have you finally made for your trip to Buenos Aires & Rio? Hotels? Sightseeing, etc?
We're also going for a week at the end of April.

Regards,
June

JuneAnn,

All set.

We are dealing with Pilar over at Argentina Escapes, a firm based in BsAs.

We will be lodging in BsAs at the Alvear Palace in Recoleta and in Rio at the Marina All Suites in Leblon.

We have several guided walks planned, outing to Corcovado and Sugarloaf while in Rio, a day trip to Colonia, a private tango lesson and tango and samba shows. We also selected some of the restaurants.

It'll be 8 of us for 5 nights in BsAs and 3 nights in Rio; not enough I know, but at least it will serve as nice break and a good intro to SA.

Been lurking over at the LA forum ,but not nearly as active as ours here. But some good info is there.

Tripgirl - been to all those places except Rio. I have a wonderful contact in BA if you need. Also, some restaurant recommendations.
As for Stockholm, I spent a week there 2 years ago and loved it. I'm sure you will too.
