Natasha, You obviously did not read what Mikey posted or did not understand it. There are no cheap B&Bs in the area of Dublin that you want to stay in. Property prices are sky high there and you will find only hotels and guesthouses and will pay accordingly. If you want to stay in a cheap B&B it will be a trade-off of staying in the suburbs of Dublin and taking a bus or public transportation into the city centre. Your choice is stay right downtown and pay lots of euros or stay on the outskirts of town and pay less. Or you can stay in a hostel.

Natasha,

There is a hostel just on the quays (river) beside o'connell street Called the Abbey Hostel. You can get a B&B cheaper than Jurys but NOT city Centre. Try the Ashling Hotel (it's a best Western) this is located by the train station and it's a 5 mins bus ride up the quays. The area is nothing nice but fine for a night. As well contact Bord Failte and they have a listing of all certified B&B's in the Dublin area. Try around sandymount/ballsbridge for a B&B as they also are 5 mins bus from town.

We stayed at Trinity Lodge, near Trinity College. Not quite in the area you want but everything is so close by, I don't know how much it matters. At the time (2 years ago), our room for 2, including breakfast was 95IEP. Here are the URLS for more information:
www.placetostay.com/dublin-trinitylodge
www.bookings.org/ie/hotels/trinity

Try Kinlay House. It's a hostel but very reasonable - ?28.50pp for a 2 bed ensuite room. It's right in the area that you're looking for and probably better value than an B&B. Website at www.kinlayhouse.ie

I would be careful of the area by O'Neills. Not a place I would walk in at night. I live in Dublin and saw there was accommodation signs above the pub (drank there a few times as well!) but I am unsure about the place for accommodation. There has been more problems with crime iin Dub;lin lately at night in bad areas so if you do stay there and go out for a few pints late just take a taxi back. It will not cost much!

Enjoy!

Jury's is cheap for a reason--it's not very nice. You're better off at a hostel. Ended up staying at one because I couldn't find anything else, and for 11 punts (before the conversion), I couldn't really complain. And it smelled better than Jury's.

This message is directed to Ann who had a bad experience at a Jurys hotel. Jurys is a huge chain with everything from one star to five star hotels. Obviously yours was at the lower end. I have stayed at the Westbury recently - on a special rate. They have just finished a 6.5 sterling renovation of the hotel, it is a 5-star, member of leading hotels of the world and in the heart of Dublin. Sorry you had a bad experience.

Natasha - try www.irelandexpert.com. Patricia Preston does an overview of all things Irish - broken into areas and hotels, tours, suggestions, etc. Find Dublin and look at her B&B recommendations. Be aware that most B&B's charge by the person, not the room and that tends to add up. My son recently used her recommendations for a suberb B&B in Dingle, a hotel in Galway that he was very pleased with, etc. Good luck!
