DDid you ever go on your trip? I am planning that route (although directly from Budapest to Kracow, and initially from Munich to Vienna. I think that from Budapest one may have to drive through the Tatra mountains. I plan to travel my agenda March 12 ,2008 through March 31, 2007. Please let me know of your understanding or experience.

We meant to do all of that last fall , but I ended up in the hospital, so we only did part of it. We did drive all through Austria, Slovenia, Croatia and Czech Republic with no problems...roads are great!
Church's book "European Camping is your best bet for good camping ideas and gives more info than most about individual campsites.
I had a friend that drove an RV from Turkey straight up to Poland without any problems last summer.
You probably be dealing with snow and rain in March...so consider that too. We could have run into snow in the mountains ( late oct) but did not. Weather was mostly sunny & crisp.
The camping in Prague is very unusual ( in someone's nice backyard) but very convenient and clean. See our blog for more info in archives if you want:

Hope that helps.
