driving to konya in dec end?

hi all,

husband and I are planning a 8-10 day trip to turkey from dec 20th or so to 31st or so. we'll land in istanbul and spend a couple of days there but I really want to visit konya to pay homage to rumi. my questions are these:
1. can we drive from istanbul to konya at that time of the year or will it be treacherous with snow etc.
2. can anyone recommend an upscale hotel in konya?
3. can someone suggest another halt enroute to konya for say 2-3 days. a little detour would be fine.

The roads are pretty good. Assuming you are from the US or Canada, they are much like the 2 lane state highways. With anything the weather is what it is, but I was there last February when they had the snow of the decade and it wasn't too bad. If you are used to driving on snow you're fine.

Hotel, I would recommend the Dedeman. I just opened last January and is a beautiful hotel.

For a side detour, you might enjoy the Selcuk area there is a lot to see.

You can fly to Konya, better to consider.

Not upscale but good standards Dedeman is fine, as the Diane suggests.

Ýf you will drive than drive daytime to avoid freeze on the road, might be that time of year....

Cappadocia to Konya can be a good option.

Happy traveling,
Murat

May I suggest......fly Istanbul to Kaiseri (1 hour)...rent car at airport, spend 3-4 days in and round the Cappadocia area....mind-blowing scenery! Perhaps stay in Urgup at our favorite, Esbelli Evi...a real "cave-inn" (with a delghtful host, Bill (Suha)...Murat, am I right?

If you indeed want to see Konya, you can drive it easily enough, straight good highway. Stay a night or two and fly to Istanbul, dropping off your car in Konya. There should not be a drop charge.

That would be the most practical thing to you.

Hi Tower

Esbelli is closed as of 15th Nov. til march but there are also other places to stay in the winter. Suha is off to Holidays, lucky him

Car rental drop charges are vary depending on the company, there are very few who would not charge for drop off.

Yes flying to Kayseri or Nevsehir stay in the area and driveto Konya is a good choice....

Greetings from beautiful Cappadocia

Murat
