Driving from Garmisch, G. to Interlaken, S.
In mid September we're driving from Garmisch to Interlacken. The map shows we drive through Anton, Austria then south of Liechtenstein. From Liechtenstein we have 2 choices: (#1) west to Luzern and south to Interlaken, or (#2) from Liechtenstein south to Chur and to Grimselpass, and west to Interlacken. We have time for stops and enjoy the trip, no time dead line. Any suggestion on a route to take AND estimated milage to Interlaken?

This is actually a more difficult question than it looks - - and I found viamichelin.com of no help to look into your options.
The website www.mappy.com was only slightly better - - if you really want to follow the "southern" route via Chur, Andermatt and the Sustenpass. When you zoom way in, it appears that some of these may be unimproved roads.
I could not get mappy.com to show a route from Andermatt to Interlaken without going way roundabout, via Luzern.
"We" might need you to pioneer this for us, TwoT - - and report back to us; are these roads passable (summer only? what season are you contemplating?)
And of course, local advice might be what you really need.
Best wishes,
Rex

Hi TwoTravelers and Rex,
the passes are open in Sept, no problem in general (well, you know that it *can* snow in summer, too, eh?).
Anyway, I do recommend against the southern route. It is LONG and means three passes (via Oberalp, Furka and Grimsel)! That is too much!
I had problems to arrive before 6 pm when I drove Davos - Saas Fee, which is about the distance of Liechtenstein - Interlaken via Southern route.
If you do not consider to stay overnight somewhere in the canton Graubünden between Chur and Oberalp pass you should drive the northern route.
