Driving from Florence to Cinque Terre
#22
I think the pace of your plans will be tough on your son, esp. if temps and humidity are high. But you know your son.
Since you are apparently headed to the Naples/Amalfi Coast area later, I'd probably skip the Cinque Terre on this trip. If Pisa is a priority, I'd combine it with Lucca and go by train. You could rent bikes in Lucca and ride the path on top of the ancient city walls. Don't forget the timed reservation if you want to climb the Leaning Tower.
Twenty years ago, we did a Viator day tour to San Gimignano, Siena and Monteriggioni from Florence. It was very fast paced, and the short stops at SanG and Monteriggioni nearly had us sprinting to see anything. If your tour includes Chianti (which is an area and not just one or two towns), the day will be long. Alternatively, you could spend the day exploring only Siena which has a lot to see. It's an easy bus ride from Florence.
Regarding Modena/Maranello, as you may know there are museums in each town, and you can book tickets on a shuttle van that runs in a circuit from the Modena train station to the Enzo Ferrari House and Museum in Modena, then to the Ferrari Museum in Maranello and back to the train station. Unless you are true Ferrari fanatics (like my husband), you would probably find the museum and car displays at Modena to be enough. In fact, there are more cars on display (and better displayed) at Modena, although they are not all Ferraris. The museum in Maranello gets all of the bus tours and gets very, very crowded, to the point that it's difficult to see the cars. If you book the "factory tour," know that you won't see any manufacturing or the assembly line or possibly even any cars. The bus drives inside the factory gates and past the test track, but all you see are the exteriors of a few buildings. If you just visit the Modena museum, you don't need to use the shuttle van. You can walk from the Modena train station.

Hello folks,
Thanks for all the inputs. As Jean suggested we are skipping CT region as we are heading Sorrento /Amalfi region. So now we have 3 days to Florence.
3rd June in Florence city, 4th intend to do tour offered by Viator (let me know if there are better ones) and 5th will drive to Pisa and Lucca.
As for the tour on 4th June, there two kinds offered by Viator. First one they are taking to Sienna, Sam Gimigano and Chianti wine tasting and the other one includes above three plus Monteriggioni. Any suggestions of which one to go for? Or maybe any other tour offer.
Thank you very much for the valuable suggestions.
