Driving from Antequera to Seville

We will be driving from Antequera to Seville on Saturday, October 10, and are looking for an "interesting" drive. We will have already visited Ronda and Zahara, and plan on having spent a day in Cordoba before driving to our 3-day/night stay in Seville. I'd thought of Jerez de la Frontera, but from what I can tell the equestrian school is not open that day. I imagine Jerez has other sights, but does anyone have any other suggestions?

TIA

Not really! What else are you interested in? You could drive through Arcos, or head through the white villages to the historic village of Jimena, stopping off in Medina-Sidoina before heading up to Jerez and Sevilla.

I would have spent more time in either Antequera or Sevilla. Maybe a drive up to the spectacular Torcal limestone rock formations, 10 mins outside Antequera? http://www.andalucia.com/antequera/torcal/home.htm

Or a visit to the ruins of the Roman city Itálica (founded 206 BC) 10 mins outside Sevilla. The amphi-theater was the third largest in the Roman empire. It held some 25.000 spectators and is well preserved. Two of the most important Roman emperors, Trajan and Hadrian, were born here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Italica

Only little more than an hour drive from Antequera to Sevilla on a pretty dull road, but there are some fine little olive oil producing towns along the way. I've never tasted an olive oil as good as one from Estepa that I was served in a Sevilla restaurant. So if you are serious about olive oil, maybe a stop in Estepa.

Thanks for the suggestions. We are spending 4 nights in Antequera so think that will be sufficient. We've decided to take a "direct" route to Sevilla, stopping in both Estepa and Osuna. We thought it would be nice to visit a couple of somewhat less traveled spots, thus dropping both Jerez de la Frontera and Arcos de la Frontera.

Thanks again!

Take a coffee/drink/tapas with the old boys in a window of the old casino overlooking the Plaza Mayor in Osuna. Or take your daytime meal nearby, at Meson del Duque not far up the hill. Or Bar Molinillo in the plaza. Or - I could go on - all have worked for me on several occasions.
What makes you think I am stomach obsessed?

When in Antequera, visit bar/restaurant in the corner of the peaceful square in front of the Real Colegiata de Santa María la Mayor, the first partly Renaissance-style church in Spain (built 1514-1550). Up here it's totally peace and quiet. Next to the recently excavated Roman baths beneath and looking up on the 13th century Moorish alcazaba/fortress. Great views over unique landscapes (the spectacular Torcal limestone mountain etc.). http://www.wild-about-travel.com/201...ing-antequera/

Drive to Osuna and visit the Convento de la Encarnación and Colegiata. Lunch at Palacio Marqués de la Gomera, whewre you can get informed of everything; or at nearby Currito.
My suggestion is you leave the motorway on the third exit to Osuna/El Saucejo, cross the railways and head up to town looking for the Hotel Palacio, and park there.
