auntgrapes...where do you live 90 miles south of us...southern CT or nyc?? we are outside boston....

it wouold be fun...we plan on only being there dec 1-3....coming from berlin and heading to rothenburg o.b. tauber...

we do not have our plane reservations yet...waiting for a sale or if i dare to wait for the nov-march fares which won't be posted until around september...in the meantime i have our destination listed on travelocity farewatcher so i get notification if something changes...

we do hope to go on air france as their schedule is the best for us and we like the switch in charles degaulle..swift and easy with buses on the tarmac....have you done it?? we want to fly to europe direct from boston to avoid usa weather problems in nov....

rhkkmk-we're in CT. (poss <than 90 mi).
Still looking at fares also. We prefer to fly out of NYC. If the best fare is out of Boston we'd take it ! We had the pleasure of meeting Ingo on our previous trip. Our exact travel dates are up in the air but hope to set them in next few days.

bob, I hope you had a great time there. Yes, everything is fine, although I couldn't attend a Fodorite GTG in my favourite country Switzerland due to business commitments.

Had a good (local food) dinner at the previously mentioned Hubertusgarten restaurant today with friends. (yes, auntgrapes, the one where we ate).

Regards, Ingo

ingo---i have made sure to put the restaurant name in my planning literature and hope to go there...
sorry you had to cancel your CH trip...we do have to tend to business ocassionally....it pays the bills as we say in the usa....
i am having some second thoughts about the art'otel, but the location seems so inviting to me...i have plenty of time to reconsider however....
now it seems that my daughter who will be with us for part of the trip may purchase a car when we arrive in munich which we would keep after she goes home, so that may mean that it would be easier to stay just on the fringes of dreseden instead, but we will have to wait for her to research that...do you have zny imput for her---she probably would buy a bmw or mercedes "truck"--the van-like jeep--i don't know the model #'s....
usually you can save quite a bit through european purchase (tax free for us) use it and then ship it to a dealer in the usa when your trip is finished...

I am sorry I missed your post. Too busy I guess.

I am afraid I have not much input for your daughter re purchasing a car. I personally own a Mercedes C180, but to tell you the truth - I don't drive a lot. Public transportation is too good here, gas quite expensive and parking is a hassle.

BTW - I don't understand why having a car is important for your decision to stay in the city centre or on the fringes of Dresden instead.

As far as I know the Mercedes M-class is probably what your daughter is looking for. Definitely an excellent car. I have doubts though that purchasing in Germany would be cheaper. I heard that Germany is quite expensive compared to other EU-countries. But this differs on the type of car.

Just for your information: I did not purchase the car new from the factory. It is a used car (Jahreswagen). I went to Mercedes in Dresden and picked it from the 100 or so there. You can save a lot. I paid only 2/3 of the price for a new and got a 10 month old with 30.000 km driven. But this is probably not what your daughter is looking for I guess.

ingo---thanks for the reply...i figured that you were busy or away....i see you were checking on the progress with your old family homes, especially the dishes you used to eat off of...hahaha

my thought about the out of town hotel was for the parking situation...

i will be in touch again when i have finalized everything for our trip....\
