My husband & I are returning to Italy to celebrate our 30th. We were in Florence for our 25th on a bus tour, I returned with my sister on our own (much better!) Now, I want to share the real Florence with my husband.
I stayed at Torre Guelfa in 2002 and enjoyed it, but the room I like (15) is not available.
I'd love to find another quaint hotel, around 180E/nt. in the area. I've researched the Hermitage, and I have some concerns about the traffic noise. I have also contacted B&B InPiazzaDellaSignoria, which is lovely, but expensive.
Does anyone know of any little hotel "gems"?

Perhaps you would like to check www.Relaisuffizi.it, a litle nice hotel with breakfast room oveseeing Piazza della Signoria. The entracne is off on an alleyway, no traffic/motorbike noise in the night.

Rooms are spacious and nice, bathroom tiny but newly renovated.

The Hermitage would be quiet if you were in a Duomo-view room.

Have you stayed at the Hermitage? I was very interested, until I saw some of the negative posts on the Hotel forum.

I stayed at the hotel for 4 nights in April 2003, the room (I am afraid I don't remember the name/number)is on the second floor with windows facing the alley, no view but quite in the night- which was most important to me. As I had stayed at Pitti Palace and Grand Hotel before, both with better views, but far too noisy.

However, with their breakfast room overseeing the Piazza, I did enjoy sipping tea in the morning, watching the empty piazza coming back to life.

Yes, we stayed at the Hermitage a few years ago. Personally, I loved this hotel and its location, but I also have heard negative comments. I would definitely consider staying there again.

Our room was on about the 3rd floor facing the river. Actually, looking into the windows of the Vesari Corridor with a glimpse of the river and Ponte Vecchio. Our room was lovely, had cable TV and an in-room safe. The bathroom was very small but somehow included a huge 2-person tub/shower combo. The room had its own A/C and heat controls. There was street noise, mostly scooters zipping by early in the morning and late at night in the road below our window. It didn't bother my husband at all, but I did use ear plugs. But then, I use ear plugs most of the time because my husband snores!

The roof-top terrace has a spectacular view, and the lobby and breakfast room are nicely decorated. We appreciated being able to order bacon and eggs (at additional cost) at breakfast. The staff was very helpful. Two thumbs up from me!

I second the nomination of the Hotel Relais Uffizi, a Karen Brown property. We stayed there in October of 2003 and enjoyed the central location, our large quiet room (no view though), and the lovely view of Piazza della Signoria from the breakfast room/parlor. The staff was very helpful as well.

Thanks to all for your great information. I have contacted the Relais Uffizi. Maria, did any of the other rooms have a view, or is it only the breakfast room that has a view?

Thank you for the great tip!! That looks just like what I would love, and the price is right. I sent them an email. Have you stayed there? Do you have any rooms that you would recommend? I'd really love a terrace if they had it, but most in Florence don't seem to. Any tips are greatly appreciated!

But what is the meaning of: Station 10'by foot, Galleria 1' by foot etc.

To me the symbol ' means foot or feet.

Is this perhaps in reference to walking time, 10 minutes, 1 minute etc.??? Thanks

LoveItaly, I think it must mean minutes. That would be about the right walking time for those sights. Sounds like an incredible location!

..just topping to see if anyone has a suggestion. We really love to be outdoors in summer (living in upstate New York can give anyone a bit of cabin fever!)) We appreciate any tips on terraces, patios...

Need to make you aware that I have never stayed there, but have read many a review raving about their terrace, and wanted to tell you.
