Desperately seeking advice on Austria - NEED HELP!

Sorry I posted this message accidentally under "US". Anyways, wanting to hear personal experiences of how American's were treated on recent trips to Vienna/Salzburg. I've always dreamt of going to these places and have a trip planned for the spring. However, having been reading posts on this site and others recently saying they (American tourists) were not welcomed or Austrians were not that friendly. Is this true? I've travelled abroad extensively and never had this experience. Don't want to spend money to go somewhere on vacation and not be welcomed. Any advice or personal stories anyone can share would be greatly appreciated.

Best time for "trolling" is Friday. You will generate many more responses that way and the thread will be pulled a few hours later.

Remember: No tolls on Monday, bad day...

I've been to Austria several times and have traveled all over the country and have never heard of nor seen any actions like the one's you are referring to. Actually, after traveling extensively through Europe, Austria is, so far, my favorite country. Everyone has been very warm and hospitable, and I found them to be quite friendly. To be quite honest, I'm shocked that anyone told you that. Definitely go and have a great time. You will quickly realize that your worries are for nothing.

I've been in Austria several times over the last few years, most recently in Salzburg this past March. We make no effort to either hide or advertise the fact that we're Americans. We've never been treated with anything other than wonderful hospitality - Austrians are great (as are most people, frankly).

Thanks to - "tcreath", "flyfish", and "P M", you have all put my mind at ease! I don't know why people posted such negative experiences on this forum and others re: Austria. Some of them said they thought Austrians were simply tired of so many tourists. Though I heard this all over Italy as well, but yet was treated very well in all the cities I visited.

To "logos999" - I'm sorry I'm new to this forum and don't know what "trolling" is - can you explain? What do you mean by Friday is better? And then the thread will be pulled? Do threads not stay posted for long? You've confused me. So far, the fodors forum has been great - very helpful!
