Austria is beautiful!
Hello everybody!
I just signed up here and wanted to say a warm 'Hello!' to everybody.
I was born and raised in Austria, in the middle of the lovely lake region just east of Salzburg. I now live in the USA but still love my old home country dearly.
Currently in the process of revamping my website, I will soon show hundreds of wonderful photos about Austria there.
If you want tips on what to see or do in Austria then please visit my website.
You can find it at www.BeautifulAustria.com

Welcome! I will always remember the hour or so I spent in St. Gilgen (on the "Sound of Music" tour) which is one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen. This must be in your home region?

Welcome Austria
We hope to spend this coming Christmas in Salzburg, so I would love to see your Photo's. My best friend absolutely adores Austria, and has taken her children there for holidays over the years, so much so that now her 24yr old daughter is getting married in Austria.

We have spent quite a bit of time in Austria and it is indeed beautiful! It is actually my husband and I's favorite country in Europe so far. We love the people, the food, the cities (Vienna and Salzburg are wonderful) and the beautiful scenery. Thanks for posting the link!

I am looking forward to the development of your website. I admit to being an "Austriaphile". In addition to the usual tourist sites, I hope the pictures include "ordinary" things, such as the food, markets, people going to work and school, etc.

Hello again everybody,
sorry for the long delay. Life has taken over again. As it always happens.
Let me try to answer all comments and questions at the same time.
Guy18. Yes, St.Gilgen is only about 20 minutes away from my home. I was born and raised in Bad Ischl, a lovely town that emperor Franz Joseph chose as his summer residence.
lucielou. If you are in the region already, don't miss out on the lake region. Try to see Bad Ischl and if you like, there is a wonderful public swimming pool with warm SALT-water (from local mine). It's both an indoor and outdoor pool.
tcreath. I hope to make progress with my website www.BeautifulAustria.com soon so that I can show everybody the wonderful pictures I have of my home country.
platzman. I have some pictures of the local people of course, but most of the pictures show the lovely landscape, the towns and lakes. I hope you'll enjoy them. But I'll do my best to find pictures that you'll like.
StLgrrl. The site that is up at the moment is my old site. I have given the site a complete overhaul but am not ready just yet. Life is always a struggle but eventually it will be done and I think you will love the new site.
SusanEva. If you visit in the summer then you MUST see the following towns: Hallstatt (5000 years of culture and salt mining!), St.Wolfgang (lovely town, go up on the Schafberg mountain by codrail), Bad Ischl (see the emperor's villa and check out the famous bakery Zauner), if you have a chance, try to make it to one of the loveliest places I know, the lake Toplitzsee near the town of Bad Aussee. You may need a car to see that lake, but boy is it worth it. And although it is outside of Austria, absolutely see the eagles nest in Berchtesgaden. Glorious view. If you have more questions please contact me through my website www.BeautifulAustria.com
kfusto. Congratulations on your wedding. The christmas market in Salzburg, (ending on december 24th) is absolutely lovely. It couldn't be more romantic. Go skiing too. Great places to be found there.
Again, sorry everybody that it took me so long to get back to you. Thank you for your patience.
Warm greetings to everybody
Reinhard

Rheinhard, funny you should mention Toplitzsee. We were there last year. We were staying in Hallstatt (our 4th or 5th trip there) and met up with friends from our time in Vienna in the 80's. They took us up to the Loser Bergerbahnen and then we had a late lunch at a restaurant on the Toplitzsee. The only way to reach the restaurant was by foot. I can't think of the name right now, but maybe you know it? It is certainly one of the prettiest parts of Austria.
When we lived there, we also loved driving over to Mariazell on the weekends. I remember there was a beautiful pilgrimage church that Pope John Paul visited.
Austria is still one of or favorite places to visit. Hopefully, we will make make many more trips there.

Hi Austria,
Looking forward to your completed website.
I'm planning on staying in Hallstatt for 5 nights in May, 2007 and have been planning driving routes around the area.
What's the road to St. Gilgen like? Is it twists and turns and precipitous drop offs?
Thanks in advance.

Wow - great job! Of all the European countries I have been to I would have to say that Austria is the most beautiful and idyllic. It is a place we would love to move to someday! Thank you for sharing this information with us.

Hello again,
Again a reply to all of your comments/questions:
enzian:
Alpine hiking in Austria? Lots of places. I love the mountains, but am not a regular mountain hiker by any stretch of the imaginagion. But one of the most beautiful ones that I ever did was from the "Felbertauernhaus" up to a hut where I could see the amazing Grossvenediger mountain right in front of me. For pictures (NOT done by me! Just found them through a quick websearch) look at http://www.summitpost.org/area/range...ger-group.html
The OeAV is a great organisation. Amazing people there who will help you find the best hikes among great friends. Enjoy the Austrian mountains (and ALWAYS respect them as they can be very dangerous).
bettyk: Don't remember the name of the restaurant at the moment. I think it was the Fishhuette (or at least that's what I remember. Their Saibling is amazing!) The long boat ride on lake Toplitzsee and the short hike to lake Kammersee are certainly an amazing experience.
Mariazell has been a powerful pilgrimage church for centuries.
If you make more trips to Austria contact me through the www.BeautifulAustria.com site. I'll try to help you as much as I can.

Me too, believe me! I wished I could work more on it, but I guess that's just life
If you stay in Hallstatt (amazing place!) then don't make the mistake of not seeing the surrounding villages. Go to Bad Ischl and Bad Aussee (train ride in two different directions) and see St.Wolfgang too. Go swim in the salt water pool in Bad Ischl if you can. See the salt mine in Hallstatt and the ice caves in Obertraun (next village).
>What's the road to St. Gilgen like? Is it twists and turns and precipitous drop offs?
Totally safe and simple to drive. Not even mountenous. Don't worry. All flat driving on great roads. If you like to eat venison go to the restaurant "Kleefeld" in Strobl (on the way to St.Gilgen). Great park with lots of deer and wild boar there. Go up the "Zwoelferhorn mountain" in St.Gilgen (cable car). Amazing view!

I can only agree. Austria is amazing. And you're very welcome. I found that I am the happiest in my life if I can share the beauty of Austria with people.
One tip goes for all trips to Austria. TAKE YOUR TIME. Do not rush through it or believe that you have seen Austria if you visited the cities of Salzburg, Innsbruck and Vienna. The real beauty of Austria is in it's rural areas, it's rich culture and welcoming spirit. Take your time to enjoy your vacation.

A question:
As you know, I am working on my new website on www.BeautifulAustria.com
My question to all of you:
What would you like to see there?
(Of course beautiful pictures, which I have a lot of), but what in terms of text, information, ...
A few ideas I have (in no particular order):
Where to go, what to see, what to do?
The best vacation places in Austria.
Original Austrian recipees (apple strudel, Wiener Schnitzel, ...)
Historic information (Emperor, Mozart, ...)
Sound Of Music (I plan a large section about that)
What else? Please keep the ideas coming...
And thank you all for your help!
Reinhard

hello reinhard, what a lovely gift today to find your website. i am also an austrian transplant, from gmunden am traunsee.
you asked what places to put in your site: schloss ort, and maybe a little history of when it was built, (1100'ish). i can help with that.
then there is the gmundner keramik where they still paint each piece by hand.
i am sure whatever you choose to do will be just right. it does my heart good to read so many posts from people about how they love austria..as i love the u.s. too now.
