d'Aubusson vs. Luxembourg Parc
Thanks in advance to everyone who has responded to my previous threads-
still trying to narrow down hotel options.
Nutshell- 10th wedding anniversary trip in May 2010- first trip to Paris for both- we are tall so queen sized beds are a must- want 6e locale- willing to splurge for a fabulous experience.
Having looked at a half dozen hotels that fit the bill in our area- we think our favorites are now the d'Aubusson and Luexmbourg Parc.
d'Aubusson doesn't have a lot of recent feedback on this forum- they have offered a romance package that includes lots of goodies and extras for just over 400 e a night. Luxembourg Parc has offered a king sized bed in an executive room for 280 e a night.
Does anyone have any feedback on d'Aubusson- or their romance package? It includes a limo lift from the airport, river cruise, concert tickets, breakfast everyday, champagne lunch, ect. Sounds tempting but the Luxembourg Parc has such rave reveiws and the 280 e a night rate is really competitive.
Thoughts?
ps. We also have the Hotel Odeon st. Germain as a backup- they have quoted us 261 e a night for an executive room, 297 e for a deluxe room.

I posted a review on TA regarding the noise from the band at the D'Aubusson.
We had stayed there several times before with no problem....probably it was not on a weekend. I can't remember. The hotel is in an ideal location, close to many restaurants, cafes and specialty shops. Plus, it is close to the quay and an easy walk over to the right bank. Additionally, the service is very good. The manager could not have been nicer to us, trying to find another room on the other side, but there were none. So after one night we checked out and moved to the Relais Christine around the corner. We like the Relais Christine and have stayed there a number of times as well.
I would recommend the D'Aubusson if you are not there over a weekend and/or they promise you can have a room on the other side away from the band. The manager told us that we could make this request for our next stay.
I probably would not stay there again...there are a lot of comparable hotels in the area where we do not have to worry about our room location.
I have heard good reviews of the Luxembourg Parc, but for me, the location is not so convenient.
Hope this helps.

We stayed at Hotel d'Aubusson this past September(our first trip to Paris) and loved it. As mentioned above, the location
was perfect for us, and the staff couldn't have been more
gracious or accommodating. We had a standard room on the 4th
floor, overlooking the street(never heard noise at night, and
didn't hear any noise from Cafe Laurent). We had a
complimentary breakfast daily, and got one night
free for staying 7 nights. We didn't get the romance package.
Paid 305 euros/night, got discounted tickets online for a Seine River cruise at www.vedettesdupontneuf.fr, checked out concerts at La Sainte-Chappelle online, and had the concierge
get tickets for us, and took a taxi to and from the airport.
We have no other hotels to compare it with, but would definitely return to d'Aubusson based on our experience.

We have stayed at Hotel d'Aubusson, I love it, my husband hated it. We had the room with a loft, very nice but the street noise and the music bothered my husband a lot. Unfortunately, when we stayed there, the air-conditioner was broken (it was the first week of June)we had to open the windows and they provided an electric fan but the fan was so noisy also. After two nights we moved to the Hyatt. The staff are very helpful and friendly but my husband does not want to stay there again. I would go back because of the location.
Their breakfast selection was very good.

Someone above mentioned Relais Christine. It is very near the d'Aubusson if the possibilty of noise bothers you. I much prefer that location to th e Luxembourg Parc. We've stayed at the d'Aubusson and were not bothered by noise at all.

We are planning our trip for a Friday arrival through the following Tuesday- so the jazz band will be playing at the d'Abusson for a few nights while we are there. We really enjoy live music, but also relish quiet sleeping in a beautiful hotel room- as we have a 2 year old at home and rarely get away. The possibility of loud music or even stifled music a few floors away really scares me. The manager of the hotel did respond that we could certainly have a quiet room far away from the music-
My follow up question is about location. I was under the impression by looking at a map that the Lux Parc was actually in a better location- more central to all the sites- than the d'Aubusson- but perhaps I'm mistaken after reading the above comments about location. As a Paris virgin- I have no idea which is the better location. Can you tell me specifically why the d'Abusson is in more superior locale than the Lux Parc?
Thanks again!

The Hotel Luxembourg Parc is not badly located but many people feel the closer you are to the Seine the better.
Although we stayed close to that hotel this summer and enjoyed the location I too prefer to be closer to the river...

A "large room" at the Hotel de l'Abbaye is the best of the bunch. The hotel is absolutely beautiful and breakfast is included in the rate. www.hotelabbayeparis.com

I think some people prefer to be right in the middle of bars and expensive shops and things like that, and the Lux. Parc is on the edge of the Parc and not quite as in the thick of bars and things as the main thoroughfare of bd St Germain is. Also, you have to walk about two blocks, I guess, to the metro stop. Now some people might see that as an advantage, I might be one of them (although I don't stay in St germain anyway, the hubbub makes me on edge whenever I am there). Being in the middle of whatever you are thinking doesn't really matter, these hotels aren't that far apart to even matter as to how much each is in the middle of Paris as Paris is so much larger. In fact, the Aubusson is closer to the center of Paris which is literally Notre Dame.
I see from the last post we are full circle now.

Hi Weekender- I agree- the l'Abbaye looks lovely, but the reason I'm staying away from l'Abbaye is the lack of queen beds. We are both quite tall and a double bed just doesn't work for us. A queen even falls a bit short- but we'll consider it part of the "Paris" experience.
From my communication with the Hotel de l'Abbaye- I understand they only have double beds in their hotel.
We are leaning heavily toward the romance package at the Aubusson right now. Seems like the best value- and they've assured me that we can book a quiet room away from the jazz club.
Thanks again for all the feedback.

Hi - I am planning my first trip to Paris too; saw from a thread you were able to get a deal at d"Aubusson, how? Curious about your itinerary when you go to Paris. Also, we are using miles on Delta to fly to Paris - any idea what the going rate is for miles and how far in advance to book? Thank you!

cdelregno: this is an old thread, and with such a specific title, I think that those things may prevent you from getting answers to your questions.
You may want to post again, starting a thread or two of your own. I'm not a Delta FF but I do fly to Europe frequently on award tickets.
January to early March, we can easily get CDG for about 30K with a credit card mileage discount.
Last May, we did PHL to MAN for that price, and thought it quite a coup.
However, I start looking very early, and check a lot.
Those tickets came with higher fees.

I've flown Delta to Paris and have a Delta Skymiles acct. I don't understand the question, the website tells you how many miles you need for certain flights, you can search by a lot of things. It depends a lot on the actual flight time, number of stops, comfort level (of course), and the time of year. I used mine for a nonstop RT to Paris from Wash DC and was able to book that sometime early in the year for July. I don't know if that has changed. I know right now, because I checked, I could book the same thing for July 2012 for 60K miles. Used to be 50K, as I recall. That ticket only requires about $90 in taxes/fees.
The website tells you all you need to know about the miles you need and options to buy some for whatever dates you want to try. I think it is 30K RT in the winter but 60K in the summer from US to Europe (some holidays may change that). Ther is also a mid-rate of 45K. If you want to use miles to pay part of the ticket, it's 10000 miles for $100 off.
IN general, if you plan to use Delta miles, and you definitely want to go and know about when, I'd book ASAP.
