Dachau directions

We are traveling tomorrow from near Innsbruck to Dachau-wondering how difficult it is to find the Concentration camp area in Dachau to tour, where is it located from center city, etc.

Much thanks.

Easy, just take the S-Bahn to Dachau and then a bus to the camp from the S-Bahn station (or walk the about two miles) - frequent service on both.

On the bus to the camp we weren't sure which stop was ours so I stood up to look around and the woman across the aisle said "concentration camp? and I said yes and she pointed to the stop as the bus was slowing. Leaving the camp we were looking at a bus schedule when a bus came by, slowed, and the driver said to follow him around the corner and that was the stop we were looking for! Very helpful people.

I think on this bus there is a label with the German word for memorial or for a concentration camp memorial - i remember this on the bus direction signs but can't remember the word - some like KD? Denkmal?

Since you are driving, an interesting thing in Dachau are the traffic lights. There are only two; Yellow (caution) and Red (stop). No light means GO! Only in Germany, where drivers understand the right of way.

And yes, there is a large parking lot adjacent to the camp.

Some years ago all they had were small yellow signs with the word "Gedenkstäte" (sp?) It was not advertised and you had to look closely for them. You won't see "THIS WAY TO DACHAU!" Parking there was no problem.

All the best to you.

The name in German is found in its website:

http://www.kz-gedenkstaette-dachau.d...tent/index.htm

And click on "Notices for Visitors" for information on visiting there...

Best wishes,
