Cruise stop in Mykonos
Our cruise ship stops at Mykonos but does not offer any tours. The only tour they offer is to the neighboring island of Delos. We were wondering if there were any beaches on Mykonos where we could spend a couple of hours and a nice restaurant to have our lunch? By the way what is the weather like in September in the Greek Islands and Southern Italy?
any input appreciated.

The weather in september will be fine.
there are several full serviced beaches with all facilities and upscale cuisine.
Psarou, is maybe the 'chicest', The N'ammos restaurant is excellent for a lunch right on the beach, sunbathing and swimming .(Psarou is not influenced by the winds)
The other choice is Panormos beach again with pleasnt young ,smart and elegant crowds and excellent lunch served.
Ask your cruise director to make a booking for you and arrange your taxi transfers (10 to 15 min drive from the harbour)

Hi Grammie,
I also agree with Mzani about Psarou beach and the the restaurant N'ammos. I was there last July and thought the beach at Psarou was terrific. It is perfect for a couple of hours and the atmosphere is very Euro Chic! It is a located next to the beach at the Mykonos Blu hotel. The restaurant was wonderful, and next to the restaurant is a super Bar/cafe that has the same owners as N'ammos. If you do go to Psarou Beach, please report back how it was this year.
Enjoy your trip, the Aegean is just beautiful.

hi grammie--
I was in Mykonos last September and it was BEAUTIFUL weather.
As for what to do... I didn't think the beaches were really worth seeing--they were definitely fun for me and my 30-something friends, but if you're just looking to kill a few hours, I wouldn't worry about getting to the beach... you won't be missing much if you don't see them-- and instead enjoy people watching from a cafe, taverna or just hiring a taxi to drive you around a bit.
As for restaurants-- I'd go with the other folks' recommendations.... my preference was to nibble at all the food stalls in town, jumping from gyros to baklava to crepes and back to gyros. And I could have spent hours wandering through the alleys, popping into boutiques....
By the way-- are you opposed to the Delos tour? I really enjoyed that.
Enjoy your trip!

The quick excursion to Delos may be meaningful to you instead of the beach visit, I agree with Brink. It was interesting to see the ruins, and you really don't need to spend more then an hour or so at Delos. One amazing place to eat a light lunch or snack when in the town of Mykonos is JIMMY'S Souvelaki. It was the best Gyro ever. Plus it is famous, and if you are lucky, Jimmy will even be there. My friend and have our photo taken with Jimmy and it is even on the wall of the restaurant! Jimmy is one of those terrific experiences you like to have on vacation. He used to live in NYC and moved back to Mykonos and owns this great place. He is a riot, and makes the whole experience at Jimmys special.
Just a note of advise, if you do go to Delos make sure you are dressed for intense sun without any shade, and make sure you take water with you! I was there when it was 102 degrees, and it was brutal.
