Best Beaches in Mykonos?
Hi All - Can anyone share their opinion on the best beaches to visit while in Mykonos? I am looking to visit 2 beaches while there and was thinking of trying to seek out:
1) the most beautiful beach on the island
2) the beach which most represents the Mykonos "scene" - I am not into the scene myself at all, but I thought it might be a good idea to see Mykonos in all of it's trendy glory
Any thoughts and/or feedback would be much appreciated! Thanks!

Some say that Super Paradise isn't what it used to be (what is, actually???) but that might be one possibility.
In terms of the so-called "scene" I'm not so sure you want to see all of that or maybe you do.
Trendy and trashy are two distictly different behaviors for some folks.

I have to say, I am getting an awful impression of Mykonos prior to going there. I hope I will enjoy it but many people don't seem to like it on this board.
I am planning to stay there for 3 nights just so I can form my own opinion...I hope it was the right move
Trendy or trashy?? We'll see...
Any other votes for the most beautiful beach?
Or the beach that is most representative of the Mykonos "scene"?

I have to say - I adore Mykonos. I was there in Oct 2005, so it was quite near the end of the season. We didn't experience the Mykonos "scene" at that time. I enjoyed Platys Yialos beach, just because I liked the surrounding area and just felt very relaxed there. Also, the fantastic Nico's Taverna is right on the beach, which is a definite plus! However, it's not really what you are looking for beauty or scene-wise.
I went to Super Paradise and it was definitely a beautiful beach, however it was almost completely empty at the time. So much so that our water taxi just stayed and waited at the shore until we were ready to go back.
I hope you enjoy Mykonos as much as I did.

Hi Imavolio
It's been a good few years since I last visited a beach on the island but two I prefered were Agrari and Kalo Livadi. They were quieter and I think, beautiful. Another more spectacular (and almost deserted) beach is Ftelia, located on the island's north coast.
Representing the Mykonos scene I'd say Super Paradise, Paradise and Paraga.
Here's a guide that might help:-

Thanks! That web site is great...I didn't realize Mykonos had so many beaches.
Would you recommend renting a car and beach hopping to sample a few?
Not sure how much traffic there is on the island and how long it takes to get from place to place...
I am travelling in early June to Mykonos. Thanks!

Hi Imavolio
I've never rented a car when on the island. It's foot, bike or bus for me usually!
The local bus service has always been good for me and that, together with the small boats that take you to some of the more remote beaches, makes it all a bit of an adventure.
Perhaps someone who has rented can help you out.
I'm sorry you feel you are getting an awful impression of the island even before you get there.
Take comfort in knowing that you are visiting during one of the very best months. The light will be fantastic, highlighting the wonderful colours of blue, reds and greens all through the town and the island for that matter. Also, it will not be too busy and folks will be relaxed before the summer chaos of July and August.
If you have any more questions feel free to ask.

Hi
Mykonos is a beautiful island with fine beaches. I liked Paradise and Super Paradise, but like the rest of the island, there is an overt gay culture prevalent there which may bother some. Yes do hire a car. We hired a little Fiat with sunroof. Had alot of fun. Roads are very narrow and winding but no traffic jams

I haven't been to Mykonos in over 20 years, but it was busy and trendy even then, and guess what , that was fun. We spent a week there then went to a " quiet unspoilt" island,( at that time Paros) .
We too enjoyed Platy Yialos( spelling wrong I am sure) beach, and always used the buses which were cheap and easy.
The water is lovely, the sand is lovely, there is a bar there( most likely dozens now, LOL ) what more do you want!
