Twenty plus years ago, when I was still a very young man, we, a small group of friends wandering about Paris early one morning after the jazz clubs closed, happened to have coffee with a couple of the girls from the Crazy Horse, both Americans. We talked for a awhile before they had to go leave for rehearsal. They were interesting and so was the show at that time, but since then, it has become nothing more then another tacky tourist destination with bus loads of aging tourist, some on their last legs. It is also no longer as unique to Paris as it once was. It has evolved into nothing more then another Vegas type Lounge show. Interesting, buy hardly worth a visit when there is so much else to see and do in Paris.
Go with your boyfriend and enjoy the evening. It will be something you can look back on, but I still consider it rather tacky and a bit outdated.

Gosh!
After reading all of your posts (had no internet access for the last few days), I have to say.. either I expected too much from the Fodorites here in terms of what they thought or maybe underestimated it...
Either ways - some of the sarcasm was totally lost on a new poster like myself.
I take it that the gist of all of your postings is - I shoud go and then decide for myself.. but then if I go and enjoy it.. I must be either perverted or senile or aging (btw: my boyfriend and I are both in our 30s).
If I dont, then I better at least enjoy opera (which I dont).
Illuminations sounds like a good plan... will add that into my itnernary.. Thank you Chunckinsey.
All I was trying to do was arrange for something fun for my boyfriend... And now, I am right where I left off...
Thanks to all who responded anyway.

Umm, did you miss this?..

Musée de l'Erotisme, 72 blvd de Clichy
By the way, if you guys want to go to a cabaret, then go! Don't worry about what others think. If you don't want to commit the $$ you can try sitting at the bar at Crazy Horse (no reservations, though).
Another alternative is to visit a jazz club...

Dear toast,
Both of the venues that you have asked about are, basically, Las Vegas shows.
Moulin Rouge ain't what it was when Toulouse Lautrec was doing the posters.
The Crazy Horse ain't what it was 30 years ago.
This doesn't mean that you might not like either.
Whatever you do, don't spend extra for the dinner.

Well, I guess a lot depends on what your boyfriend likes. I have not been to Moulin Rouge. I did go to Crazy Horse several years ago. I thought it was entertaining, even if it wasn't worth the high cost (we didn't sit at the bar). Hey, I do like opera, but I also like different experiences. There are better and there are worse things to spend your time and money on, so if it sounds like something your boyfriend would like, why not?

Jazz club sounds good on one of the days too.
Thanks Ira, Dan and Travel nut.
I will go to one of the two places. I have personally never gone to Las Vegas to watch a cabaret. And I am one for new experiences
Had hoped someone could comment on the current shows that are running.
Will go to one of the two places anyway and let you know what I thought of it.
Thanks guys.

Enjoyed the Moulin Rouge show, and yes it is like a Las Vegas Show, but if you have the time, a fun relaxing evening after walking and sight seeing all day. Wouldn't pay for the meal and show, just the show. We went by bus, as it isn't the best place to be late at night and besides you get to see a lot of the city when they drop off the other guests.
