Covent Garden Hotel - 3 adults

I've been searching for a hotel in the Covent Garden area. We'll be three adults for two nights the weekend of September 19th. Having a hard time finding something (short of the Ritz for $745 US/night....) Does anyone have any suggestions? I'd like to keep it under $250 US / night if possible. Thanks.

Hi

I reccoment the Strand Palace hotel. Very nice and you'll get rooms for about $150 per night. It's located on The Strand which is around 5mins walk at most from Covent Garden.

HOTELS ON THE STRAND, near Convent Garden

I keep these notes, which might be useful. The Strand runs 200 yards south of Convent Garden.

www.londonhotels.ndirect.co.uk/, click on Charing Cross Area
Royal Adelphi Hotel, a simple hotel, well placed.
Single with facilities 68 pounds Double/twin with facilities - - 90 pounds Triple with facilities - - 125 pounds
A drawback is that you take stairs to the first floor, but from there on you have a lift.

Notes on Fodors forum on the Strand Palace Hotel.

August 2003

1. My in-laws have stayed there twice...it is older but they found it clean and comfortable...the location can't be beat...it is near Covent Garden and Trafalgar Square....the Strand is a major street with convenient transportation and lots of taxis...Charing Cross station is just down the street... Simpsons in the Strand is across the street--world famous restaurant

2. The location is wonderful! The rooms are tiny. The times I've stayed there, they were always clean.

3. Hi- It has been years since I stayed there-
The rooms were oldish - but at least the windows opened...they are not airconditioned...only the Lobby area is A/C... They did have a good continental breakfast and a nice carvery restaurant in the hotel.... Not luxurious, but adequate....

April 2003

1. Message: I have stayed at the Strand Palace three times. It is a large hotel across the street from the Savoy. Like many London hotels, the rooms are extremely small, but I like the location. From there it is walking distance or a short tube ride to most of the major tourist attractions in London, particularly Covent Garden, the theater district and the River Thames. There have been some negative comments on this forum about the location and hotel, so to each his own. In my opinion, it is a good choice, particularly if you get a good rate. I prefer it to Piccadilly.

2. We've stayed at the Strand Palace each time we've visited London and are reserved again for next December. The negative comments have included: tiny rooms, seedy, rundown, etc. We always try to get a corner room and they seem to be a bit larger than average. We like having a choice of restaurants on premises for days we return tired from sightseeing and don't wish to go out. The main reason for our choice is the location. Three underground stations within walking distance, a good choice of buses pass by the hotel and walking to many places is easily done. As far as we are concerned, though not trendy or posh, we ll continue staying there in spite of negative opinions posted here.

Charing Cross Thistle Hotel. 190 to 255
Double at 90 a night in summer 2002. See http://summerinthecity.thistlehotels...p?Offer_Id=271
There are good offers through brokers: try Google and the hotel name

Universities and colleges offer good lodging in vacation. If your dates are flexible plan your stay around their vacation schedule. These rooms are available to 28 September, 2003. http://www.buac.co.uk. The colleges near Convent Garden are the London School of Economics and Kings College, but I think neither has residences nearby.

Please write if I can help further. Welcome to London

I think the problem is going to be finding a triple ..or did you want a double and a single?

Celticdreams, I've only stayed in Covent Garden twice so certainly can't comment on many hotels but due to the popular area I get the idea space is VERY limited for larger-sized hotel rooms. Perhaps consider staying near Covent Garden? Last month I stayed in Renaissance Chancery Court which is only about a 5-minute walk to Covent Garden (and located by a tube station.) The rooms are large -- had two nice-sized beds -- plenty comfortable for three people. Three adults in one room could get very uncomfortable in a small room. Just something to consider... Have a great trip!

Just a follow up. I delegated the booking of this room to one of my fellow travellers.

We ended up the Citidine apar'hotels right at Trafalgar square. We had an efficiency apartment for about $250 US a night. Not bad split amongst three of us. Great location.

You had to pay for most services (room service, cleaning, new towels, etc) This could certainly add up very quickly. Because we got there late on Friday and left on Sunday - it didn't matter because we didn't use any of them. But, it would certainly be something too take into consideration if you were going to use that as your base location for any length of time.

Thanks for all your help. Most of the places suggested here were booked for the larger rooms, which is why we looked further.

check the booking siote hotel-assist.com. You can specify triple and sort by location. You'll find triples. I just finished researching quads and found what I was looking for so triples can be found.
