Thanks Fodorites for your insight and tips. I definitely appreciate them and will be filing them to use next week.

KJA-I actually purchased Eyewitness,Rick Steves, Cardagoan,Rough Guide and Lonely Planet guides to the areas and have researched through these books. I was just asking as I have been on this board for over 20 plus years and always like hearing from others who travel as I do.
Happy Travels everyone!

In Cordoba, consider visiting the Palacio Museo de Viana.

Plan on plenty of time at the Alhambra and reserve well in advance.

Enjoy!

I just saw this thread but I'm still adding my two cents worth. We spent 2 nights in Cordoba (worked out to two half days and one full day) and we loved every minute of it. We didn't even get to see everything (like the Palacio de Viana which I was really sorry about). I was planning on just day tripping to Cordoba (or staying one night) but I read so many posts where people recommended staying longer that I changed our plans. We also were in Sevilla and Granada. We spent 2 full days in Granada (3 nights) and it was enough for me (we did both a day and night visit to the Alhambra and almost everything else to see). Cordoba has more charm IMO. But it doesn't matter because anywhere you go in Andalucia is wonderful.

For me Gibraltar was entirely charmless and one of the least favourite places I have ever visited. I cant speak about Cordoba - but why visit Gibraltar when you can add extra time in Malaga or Seville?

I have heard some pros and cons but it is one of those places that my adult kids have always wanted to see.>

enough said - like your kids I always wanted to see the climb on the Rock of Gibraltar - and if you do not do it they will always wish they had - Gibraltar is not like those other cities with much more substance or whatever - a gaggle of churches to see and museums and neat white-washed alley ways, etc but it is unique

I suggest in your interest you heed your kids' wishes and do a half-day at the Rock - you could also go over by express boat to Africa - may be their only chance to ever set foot in Africa - boats leave regularly from Algeciras, right next to Gibralter.

All those cities are fab - the Rock is too IMO but obviously everyone above says it is a worthless piece of rock. No one is right or wrong as whatever they feel is right.

You are way out of date, Pal. It would take them forever to get in and out, much more than half a day. It used to be that one went there for the English language bookshops or to get married (no divorce in Spain), but all that's changed. Now you go there to see skyscrapers.
The ferries from Algeciras now land up at a new port called Tanger Med, 40 km from Tangier. Of course, one can still go to Ceuta for cheap electronics and to see all the migrants trying to get over the barbed wire fencing into Ceuta, but ...
You advice needs updating.

We ended up staying one night in Cordoba instead of adding on "the rock" and are glad we did. It is a beautiful town (stayed at the NH there) and could park our car and walk the old town area. Thanks everyone for all of your help and suggestions!
