Where do I stay? What should I do in 3 days?
I am going to Copenhagen at the end of April
and booked the Sheraton near Tivoli Gardens.
Is that in the center of town? I will be by myself so would like a safe location near sights and shopping.
I love to wander, sightsee, shop, go to markets-would love some advice.

You might want to look up Copenhagen under "destinations".

Stroll up the Stroget (pedestrian walking street); window-shop, watch the men playing chess, and marvel at the prams with sleeping babies outside while he moms sit inside having a coffee. Walk up the Round Tower. At Nyhaven, if it's warm enough, sit outside and have a beer late in the afternoon. Continue along the promenade to see the Little Mermaid (she is indeed very small). In the evening, go to Tivoli (assuming it's open; it should be in late April); have dinner at one of the restaurants there or just walk around and enjoy the lights.

You could also take a train to Roskilde (30 minutes) to see the Viking ships museum.

Other things we enjoy are the botanical garden and Rosenborg Castle nearby. And if you like amazing views, go up the sprial staircase outside the steeple of Our Saviour's Church (if it has re-opened--they closed for renovation in 2005 and it was due to be finished 2007). This is a bit out of the main area, but you can pick up a free bike to get there (you leave a 20 Kr deposit which is returned when you return the bike).

I have been to flea markets on Vesterbrogade (the street running in front of Tivoli and the train station), but I don't know what day of the week---maybe Saturday.

Copenhagen is my favorite walking city. It is very safe.

There is no Sheraton in Copenhagen (anymore and for years). You might want to check your reservation.

Tivoli Gardens are in the center of town, though.

There doesn;t seem to be any Sheraton in Copenhagen. The only hotel they show on their web site is the Palace. This is an older, traditional hotel that gets mixed reviews. (We stayed there and it was fine - but that was about 12 years ago.)

It's right on the main town square, a short walk to Tivoli and near one end of the Stroget and a couple of musuems.

Copenhagen has way more than enough to do. (One of my favorites is the small WWII museum - with the home made tank - and the story of how the Danes managed to smuggle almost all their Jewish citizens out of the country to escape the Nazis).

Do look at the desintaitons section - and check out your hotel reservations to make sure it is the Palace.

The area around Tivoli can be full of street people ( it was in the summer), Nyhaven is much nicer. A lot of hotels there.

The Palace is in a good, safe location -- right across the street from the city hall and around the corner from Stroget. It is a bit faded so you might check around the room before you settle in.

The double-decker Hop-On/Hop-Off bus starts right out front the hotel and might be a good place to start to get your bearings. Copenhagen is a wonderful city, a great place to spend 3 or more days.

it is the Palace that I have booked, can anybody recommend a different hotel?

A couple of good choices are the Radisson SAS Royal and The Square.

We once stayed in The Hotel Danmark, which was pleasant enough for the price(around $100 a night at the time.) Clean, small rooms and a good breakfast. It was close to The Palace, which looked pretty shabby.

When in Nyhavn, take a ride on the DFDS Canal Tours, located near the Little Mermaid. If it's operating in the winter months, that si. Very interesting and pleasant boat ride.
