Concerned:Early Flight out of Venice
We are considering an early flight out of Venice. Have any of you done this? We might book an Air One 7am flight from Venice to Rome. Will it be a problem getting to the Airport so early? What time do you think we should arrive? Is there a ferry service that will be available at such an early hour? Thanks!

I took a 6:00 AM flight from Venice last year. If I remember correctly, the desks for check-in didn't open until 5:00 AM. The Alilaguna ferry does not run that early, so we had to take a water taxi, which our hotel arranged. There was fog on the lagoon, so the water taxi would not go to the airport. He dropped us at the Piazzale Roma, from which we took a taxi.

The Alilaguna runs from the airport to several points in Venice, including San Marco. Their website lists routes and schedules:

I'm glad you asked this question. We were originally booked on a 10:40 flight out of Venice, but that one has been cancelled, and they switched us to a 6:40-ish flight instead. I'm worried for the same reasons you mention. When they notified us of this change, though, they said it could be changed again before June, so I'm somewhat hopeful that we might be back in luck.

You can also take a bus from Piazzale Roma to the airport. The ATVO airport express departs at 5:00 and 5:50 and takes about 20 minutes. Buy tickets at the ATVO office in the big white building before boarding. The city bus (ACTV) departs at 4:40 and 5:40 and takes a few minutes longer. Buy tickets at any tabacchi that sells ACTV tickets (there's one right at Piazzale Roma, as I recall).
