Compare London and Paris :London is sexy. Paris is social.

Unsure of which to visit?

Another interesting article by Duncam Fallowell.

If he really thinks Paris is unsexy and London unsocial, he hasn't been trying hard enough - in either city.

Too much exposure to French paradoxicalism for effect, à mon avis....

What a bizarre article. Seems like a collection of rather random opinions and impressions with little basis in fact.

I just saw his picture and I think it might take more than just "trying"...perhaps some help from the "Fab Five": for a start.

Sheer drivel.

>Paris is relentlessly urban, a stone quarry cut by avenues.

What are the Bois de Boulogne, Parc Monceau, Parc du Champs de Mars, Jardin Tuileries, Jardins Luxembourg, Jardin des Plantes, Esplanade des Invalides, Place des Voges, Butte de Chaumont and Pere La Chaise - stone quarries?

>Paris is hard and glamorous while London is subtle with surprises.

Pish, tosh.

Amen, Dukey. His "article" doesn't make any sense, sounds more like some drunken guy's pub mumblings after unsuccessfully hitting on a French woman.

"after unsuccessfully hitting on a French woman"

Mr Fallowell's inclinations must have changed a VERY great deal since I knew him, then.

But he understands both cities a great deal better than the one day a year tourists who inhabit this board.

Hi F,

>.. he understands both cities a great deal better than the one day a year tourists who inhabit this board.

Then how do you account for the blather that he posted?

Ok, unsuccessfully hitting on a French man? Or possibly a French poodle?

At any rate, the people who've replied to this post have a lot more experience with both cities than "one day a year".

Flanneruk he clearly does not understand both cities but pretends to. I have spent weeks in both cities but maybe I still qualify as a one day a year tourist. Anyone who refers to London as sexy obviously frequents the Soho area! Paris now that's sexy!

Someone who lived in both cities for years, said that in Paris, you have to become like a Parisian to enjoy the city. In London, you can be yourself and still enjoy living there. She thought London more cosmopolitan and international, Paris charming and very French.

flanner, we are not commenting on Fallowell. we are commenting on his piece....complete useless drivel. one expects pieces like this to strike a chord and present subtle insights with elegance. this piece sounds like a journal entry by a goth university student on his first trip to either city....self important and trying far too hard to be 'deep'. like something scratched down in a journal next to some some lyrics to a james blunt song. even rick steves could do better.

Such as,

"I'm so hollow, baby, I'm so hollow.
I'm so, I'm so, I'm so hollow.
I'm so hollow, baby, I'm so hollow.
I'm so, I'm so, I'm so hollow"?

I wonder if Fallowell woke up one morning (or evening, who knows what hours he keeps), realized he was on deadline, just pounded out whatever random thoughts bubbled up and sent it in.

Too bad, because it might have been interesting if he'd taken just a couple of his musings and done a more thoughtful piece about those.
