Cliffs of Moher
I was curious if anyone had taken a boat cruise around the Cliffs of Moher? I found a 75 minute tour operator that sails from either Liscannor or Doolin. There are four of us going to Ireland for the first time in late June and as of yet have no plans to do a boat tour but thought this would an interesting way to see the Cliffs. We will of course still be viewing them from above but thought this would provide some unique picture opportunities. Does anyone have any experience with this particular cruise? Thanks in advance. I do not have any experience with a cruise of the cliffs and after viewing the area from the top I would not want to do a cruise. They are the most increadible cliffs in the world (I'm getting dizzy) and you can get the full experience looking down. The thought of all those people standing with in inches of the thousand foot fall gives me the creaps!!! Don't waste your money on the cruise.

there were not many of us looking over the edge...most people crawled to the edge...i woalked over crouched down fightning the wind to look over and take pictures. 99% of the people stay behind the fence a good distance from the edge.

Hi Jennifer:
I've never taken the trip either but I believe Michele Erdwig mentions it in her book which almost certainly means that she has done it. You can post a message to her on her forum at www.irelandyes.com. She may be traveling now, so the response may not be instantaneous.
Hope this helps.

We did not take the boat tour last year and I regret it somewhat. I believe you can get some amazing views. We did stop in Doolin and walk out on an outcropping of rock there and got some great shots and views. Sometimes a little exploration goes a long way!

The past week or so has had them sailing out of Liscannor at 15:30 each day. Depending on times and weather, the wife and I have this on our list of things to do if we are able.
Unless something comes up that causes us to miss them (time/location change, weather, wanderlust taking us in a different direction
), I will post a report on my impressions - and perhaps a few pix.

Thanks for all the advice and for letting me know the time the boat is curently leaving. We are thinking of taking the cruise our first day to break up the trip to Clifden but didn't know if we would make for the afternoon cruise. I am still waiting to hear from the company to tell us if they have openings for either day we will be in the area. Thanks again jef e for possibly posting a report!

Topping, just to let Jennifer know that we didn't get to take the cruise
We did try - while at the Cliffs of Moher tourist info office on a Sunday, the woman behind the counter offered to call them for us to get sailing times. According to her, 2:30 from Doolin that day.
Sadly, however, that was not the case. We drove the short distance to the pier, but were greeted with a sign saying no sailings that Sunday.
I don't know where the miscommunication was, but I'd suggest making the call yourself. The cruise company's phone message may not have had a date, or the woman at the desk didn't catch part of the message - I don't know, but either way it bugs me that I didn't make the call to know for sure.
After seeing the cliffs from the top, it would have been great to catch the cruise but we already had reservations in Galway that evening, so we had to move on.
One bonus to the extra trip to the pier, tho - we decided to have a late lunch at Gus O'Connors in Doolin. Best lunch (Irish Stew) I had the entire trip.
Better luck to you!

Thanks for letting me know about your attmept Jef E. Unfortunately I haven't had much luck myself, I have emailed the company twice and though the site says you will recieve a response within 24 hours I have been waiting a couple weeks with no word. I think we will just stop by and if it works out great if not maybe we can have lunch at Gus O'Connors. Thanks for the information!!! Jennifer
