CINQUE TERRE IN ONE DAY?

I will be visiting my daughter in Nice next week. Is it realistic to take the train to CT early one morning, hike, and take the train back to Nice that night? I don't really want to check out of my hotel for one night and then check back in.

Depends on the train schedule. It's probably *feasible* if you left Nice very early in the morning and returned very late in the evening but, even with that, it likely wouldn't leave you with much time to hike.

I don't recall the exact total travel time, but I seem to recall leaving Vernazza around noon and, with a change of trains in Genoa, not arriving in Nice until late afternoon.

I had NO IDEA it was that far by train! Thanks so much for the info. I guess we will have to spend the night or go another time. Thanks again!

Yeah... I remember having to change trains once or twice to get there. I don't think it is feasible for a day trip. There were long layovers in between and our experience with Italian trains was that they didn't tend to be on time like most of Europe. The day we left for Cinque Terre we learned the phrase... "Treni Ritardo!" (sp?)
