Christmas Dinner in Venice?

I'm taking two teenage boys (pizza eaters) and two grandparents (non-pizza eaters) to Venice for Christmas. Any suggestions on restaurants which might be open on Christmas day?

Ipadpric, I don't know as have never been in Venice on Christmas Day. I assume you have hotel reservations. Could you contact your hotel for suggestions? I would think they could help you. Have a beautiful and merry Christmas in Venice! It sounds wonderful.

Thanks. Hotel said I could do it on arrival, but we don't get in until late Christmas Eve. I'm more worried that they'll be shut! I guess there are sufficient tourists around to warrant staying open. Thanks for good wishes - I love Venice.

I'll be in Venice too w/ my family on Chistmas. I have asked my hotel "Novecento" to provide suggestions and reservations..I have not yet heard from them.

If your looking for something among the top 40, you can expect slim pickens. Venice is a very Christian city and most good places will be closed.

The only way to narrow the field is to call your restaurant choices directly or, supply your hotel with a list and have them call. They won't love this futile, time-consuming task but they'll do it (when they get around to it).

You may pay more but, for a special meal, you can count on some of the better hotels. Cip's Club at Cipriani's is a favorite of mine on a holiday. There's nothing authentic Venetian about the food but I've never been disappointed here. Plus, they serve pizza.

I don't know why but Italians are real slow responding to e-mails. I think part of the problem is they do not feel confident about their written English. I have even had my Italian friends in Italy say they always feel embarressed their English is not written properly. And the joke is it is written better than most of ours. Probably because of their strict teachers they had in school, everything expected to be "perfect". Also a cultral thing. Everything moves slower than here in the US.

Can you call the hotel(s)? Most in Venice have people that speak English.
Maybe you could get information this way.

Or, just wait until you arrive and ask them when you check in. Most have "connections" with restaurants etc. and imagine you can get reservations. Do rememeber that Italians have Christmas at home usually so I would think getting a table would not be a problem

Anyway dear ones, a problem I would love to have this Christmas!! Happy travels.

Poste Vecie is always open on Christmas. It is a traditional Venetian restaurant near the fish market.

Locanda Montin in Dorsoduro has been known to be open on Christmas. Cip's Club is a great suggestion - I didn't know they had pizza, but I have always wanted to go out there for a burger!

We were in Venice for Thanksgiving. Upon our arrival (on the 20th), I asked our hotel where I could find the "best pizza." He sent me to Acqua Pazza, a restaurant that typically specializes in seafood but easily had the best pizza I had on the whole trip...that good. The menu has a rather wide selection -- they have wonderful pastas as well. Not sure if they are open on Xmas though...but if they are, it would be sure to please the whole crew!
