Venice around Christmas time
We will be in Europe for Christmas and New Year's and are thinking about of visiting Venice in between both holidays. How many days would you recommend, given the time of year if it matters? We are deciding between 2.5 and 3.5 days. Some members in our group seem to think 2.5 days is plenty since it'll be cold.
We are a group of 3 couples, all in our late 20s.
Thank you and happy travels!

Our alternative for leaving Venice a day earlier is to go back to Strasbourg where our friends are currently living. It's free lodging but we're also spending Christmas there so I don't mind not getting that day in Strasbourg.

I've been in Venice at that time of year a couple of years ago, and was both pleased and disappointed that the weather wasn't foggy and atmospheric, but sunny, though slightly brisk. The luck of the draw. It was great.
It's not true, though, that Venice is empty at that time--it's nothing like summertime, but there are a fair number of tourists, mostly Europeans. That's reflected in the fact that many hotels charge high season, or at least mid-season, prices during the holiday period.
