I would also note that there is a cottage industry in reservation scalping and that many chefs are (rightly, IMO) angry about the practice. Aside from the fact that they see it as unfair, it has allegedly resulted in an increase in no-shows.

But lincasanove, I don't understand the problem then - the rule you quote says they charge this "In the event that the booking... is cancelled by you *with less than 48 hours notice*" - and you say you have already cancelled, more than 48 hours ahead ?

There's no PROBLEM.. I was just SHARING information.. yes, I have cancelled and have not been charged.. but found it surprising as when I made the reservation there was no mention of this.. FORTUNATELY they wrote me requesting credit card and THEN stating their cancellation policy.
Of which I am very happy to have been notified because ..

IF MY PLANE does not arrive late the night before, ( weather.. cancellation.. whatever) the next flight the next day would have forced me to cancel and at their discretion be charged.

Sorry if I have confused anyone. From OP

...I still hope we arrive timely the night before and when I call, they have an opening for us, but I thought it a bit extreme for LUNCH and of course didn't want to chance it..."

Gordon Ramsay is merciless, and his 'seating clones' at many of his locations are as well. I've been turned away seemingly for not being *cool* enough to be seen in his place. Me?? I ask you!

I don;t get th eproblem. They told you of the policy in advance - before you gave them you cc info - so you were at n risk.

I understand why they do this (yes, the number of people doing multi-reservations is increasing - and they need to protect themselves.

Agree it;s the same as getting tickets for a show or ballet. You bought the ticket and it's yours. If something happens you can resell - but you can;t expect to get your money back.

I understand the thread is more than 2 years old but have to say that I can't understand anyone wanting to go to a restaurant owned by a numptie that has to swear like a navvy on TV to become "famous".
