Hi Leverett
There is no cheap ticket in Turkey. If you are buying domestic ticket you can get the same price. There is no competition in Turkey, ONLY Turkish AirLines. If you buy ticket in USA there are some Consolidators you may get cheaper then Turkish Ailrlines. Talk to them on their 800 number and I am sure you can get some discount.

BTW, if you are outside of Turkey, you can probably not even book the fare that you are quoting. I did the same exercise a couple of years ago and ended up having to book through someone locally in Turkey to get the rate you see on TA website. At the time it was about $85 each way (we flew into Kayseri and out of Antalya, didn't need to purchase a RT)

Turkish airlines does have an airpass which offers discounts on the domestic flights. We are paying about $330 each for Istanbul-Izmir, Izmir-Istanbul-Kayseri, then Adana-Istanbul (4 flights--unfortunately, the Izmir to Kayseri counts as two legs).
Several people have told me that only Kayseri is open now in Cappadocia.

I haven't checked but have you looked at buying tickets direct to Kayseri from the USA but with a stopover in Istanbul. I've tried this numerous times to various Turkish cities and it normally works out cheaper than buying an internal ticket separately.

Sinan--I am NOT selling anything. I am a tourist, have never been to Turkey and am planning my first trip to Turkey the end of this month. I was just sharing information that I had learned myself. Please DO NOT be so quick to judge others and to fling insults. We Fodorites appreciate the tips you have given in the past. But, you should temper your responses. Respectfully.

I was thinking of posting a request for recommendations of a reputable travel agent in Turkey-if some of the above garbage is what they get up to then it seems better to ask at my hotel when I arrive! lacontessa- I appreciate your input very much. I looks like Onur air is giving Turkish airlines a bit of competition!

After some research looks like cheapest way to do this is to plan ahead and buy the domestic segments at the time of buying the international flight.
Alternatively less cost efficient but some domestic tour packages come bundled with domestic flight tix at a lower price (although true be told it's hard to seperate the cost of of just the tour with the airline tix).
In short, if you can try to figure out in advance where you're going in Turkey, can probably save some money booking all flights, international and domestic

Thanks for the support. As to travel agents, this forum has feedback regarding several companies (e.g., Pacha, Go-Today), guidebooks also list suggested ones (e.g, Insight, Argeus). I also have found Tom Brosnahan's turkey website to be helpful. We have booked a 5 night air-hotel package in Istanbul through the US agent for Turkish airlines (Troy Tours). They have been very responsive to our emails and have told us when it is cheaper for us to book directly, or when they don't have the answer for us--so we will have experience with more than one travel agency when we return in April after 2 weeks in Turkey. Will give further feedback then.
