CDs in London
After reading the bookstores thread I thought I'd also throw in a thread for a CD Shop, new or used, in London. Where are they?
I'm looking for Classical (Romantic, Contemporary), Jazz (BeBop, Oscar Peterson), Pop (Non top 40, Adult, think Richard Thompson) and Trip Hop (think Massive Attack).
Thanks.

Virgin Megastore on Oxford Street Near Tottenham Court Road.
HMV has two better branches (IMO) on Oxford Street too, one between T.Ct.Rd and Oxford Circus and the other down passed New Bond Street on the opposite side (towards Selfridges). Both good (esp. HMV) for Classical and to a lesser degree Jazz
However, whilst they are both excellent and have wide and catholic stock there are both simply faceless chains (you'll find one or other or maybe both on most highstreets in the UK) and the staff have no real knowledge whatsoever.
So for rather better Record Stores:-
Selectadisc (Brewer Street? anyway somewhere round there in Soho; you can see the shop on the front cover of Oasis' 2nd album - ie their last semi-decent one). For "Adult Pop" - by your description we'd call that Indy or Alternative, and trip hop.
Awareness Records - a couple of decent caverns close to Selectadisc (some 2nd Hand), lots of vinyl, lots of soul, triphop, garage etc. Another one in Islington (high street?) with an excellent 2nd Hand Vinyl selection with lots of hard to find stuff.
Music & Record Exchange - Right by Notting Hill Tube Stn, northern exit. Several 2nd hand shops, a different one each for: books, singles, soundtracks, rare vinyl/CDs (the main shop), musical instruments and HiFi equipment.
Intoxica - Portobello Road (more hard to find vinyl, 2nd hand rarities etc.)
Beanos - Croydon (worth taking the train to! Croydon is in Sth London) - the biggest 2nd Hand Dealers in Europe, in an old warehouse with almost everything you can think of. I think they might have a web page so try looking there and giving them a list of your 'Wants'. I can lose myself here for 4-5 hours and travel annually a couple of hundred miles to get my fix.
There's also a very very good Jazz shop at the top of the Grays Inn Road/Commercial Street nr Kings X. Can't recall its name but it is superb for old deletions etc.
Note: All Tower Records have closed/in the process of closing down in London and the UK (with possible exceptions of Heathrow/Gatwick).
Hope others can help more especially with Classical and Jazz for you.
Happy browsing
