car rental inTuscany, price?
What's a fair price to rent a standard or midsize car in Tuscany for a week in the fall? Not sure what to expect/plan on. I can either pick-up/return in Florence or somewhere else in Tuscany. Thanks,

Check www.novarentacar.com and www.autoeurope.com
They are both rental brokers with excellent reputations and prices as good as anyone if not better.

90$ a day is not bad with Autoeurope considering that they usually add all the coverages (cdw, theft, collision and unlimited mileage). IF you have asked for an automatic transmission that could be more expensive than a manual one.
In Italy car insurance fees are VERY high (I heard somewhere on tv that they were amongst the highest in Europe), because Italy has the highest rate of car accidents in Europe (of course, everybody runs runs runs)

In April, I booked a compact car(Alpha Romeo 147)for 7 days for $348, total, with Autoeurope. There were some sales going on and that helped with the price. I think I got a free upgrade to get that car. I picked up and dropped off at the Rome airport. Maybe I just got very lucky. They do have sales and match other companies prices. Did you try giving them a call? maybe some towns are less expensive to pickup/return than others.

Check with Autoeurope directly by phone, I know that they have always some kinds of rebates if you pay by a certain date. First they give youthe regular price and then they say that if you pay by a certain date you can get a 10% discount. Plus if you have a AAA or AARP card it might bring the fare even lower.

We've just returned and paid $1200 for 21 days using an Opel Vectra Compact Wagon/manual diesel. Diesel is about .15€ to .20€ cheaper than gas.
