Capri hotel

Hi everyone- Our honeymoon is coming up and we planned to start off in Capri at Hotel Belsito for two nights and then to Positano or Praiano for four nights. Recently Belsito has gotten some bad press so we're looking to change. Hotel BellaVista near Anacapri has availability as does Le Sirene(Praiano) where we plan to stay the other nights. Do people have anything to say about BellaVista or any other hotel in Capri in the 3 star range (we've contactyed Gatto Bianco, Casa Caprile, and Loveley but not heard back)?. Or should we just spend the whole time in Positano or Praiano and take a day trip to Capri. Thank you.

This may be too late, but in case not...

I highly recommend staying on Capri : I imagine it must seem horrible when just doing a day trip, fighting your way up & down between the port and Capri Town with thousands of others. Away from the main square it's largely very quiet, beautiful and romantic.

On my last visit we stayed at the 3 star La Floridiana. We had a junior suite which was v. spacious, nicely decorated with lovely tiled floor, a balcony & sea view, & was very reasonable. The hotel doesn't have a pool but you can use that of the hotel next door.

Good morning, my vote would be for the Hotel SYRENE in Capri, A small hotel with 32 rooms with lift, ristorante, bar and swimming pool. It is located about two blocks from the Pza Umberto I, a very good evening spot on Capri. Some rooms have a water view of the Faraglioni.. Go into www.caprionline.com/syrene/index.html.. for further infomation.

Hotel Mamele on Capri has garnered good reviews on the forum in the past. I think it's a 3 star with no pool, but check previous posts by FLUFFY for more info.

There's also Hotel Weber, but that may be more basic than you're looking for. Good luck!

We stayed at the Syrene in May 2000. It is well-located, and the room was spotlessly clean, and nicely furnished. However, there weren't many hotel guests while we were there. The hotel was quiet in the sense that there wasn't any activity. Breakfast was just so-so.

I love waking up to the church bells in the morning.

Hotel Mamela is a 4* hotel that does get favorable reviews on this forum. We chose it for that reason and we were very pleased with it's location.

We stayed six nights at the Mamela and do not regret our choice to do so. There was so much to do and see on Capri and we also took a day trip to Sorrento amd Positano. Our hotel had a pool which we used for about an hour and a half every afternoon when we would arrive back after our excursions. We also spent 3 nights in Rome. We did alot that week in Capri but we also spent alot of time just enjoying the ambience of the area. Consequently, we did not get to Pompeii, Vesuvius, or Herculaneum, but we will go back in 3-5 years to see what we didn't this trip.

No matter what you choose you can't go wrong because the area is just spectacular. Before you book any hotels just keyword them in the SEARCH THIS FORUM box and see if any of the fodorites had any info on them because the people on this forum are very honest and reliable, in my opinion. Good luck and enjoy the planning. That is part of the fun!
