Ca' leonessa Apartment in Venice, your thoughts?

Hi everyone, I'm looking at this apartment to stay in for 4 nights pre-cruise October 2012. I have noticed that many places are already booking up so thought I should jump in early to get my choice.

Being two couples we think this would be much better value than two hotel rooms. Has anyone any knowledge of this apartment? It get good reviews and seems to be in a very nice area.

I would appreciate any feedback and am open to any other accommodation suggestions. Thank you.

It looks good, the area is a wonderful one to stay in, and the reviews on Trip Advisor sound positive. An apartment is a great alternative to a hotel. If it was me, I'd be reserving it!
I hope you all fall in love with Venice.

Yvonne

Thanks YvonneT, I'm sure we will love Venice too.

It seems a fairly new apartment, there aren't many reviews other than Trip Advisor so I just really want to know if its for real before I send off any money.

I can't speak to the flat, but the area IS nice. Campo Santa Margherita had a cool market when we were there.

TDudette, thank you for your post. The general area was what drew me to the apartment in the first place, from all the reading I have done it seems a popular place.

I see there are good reviews on the Home Away and holidaylettings sites, also. But I can absolutely understand your concern. I guess, if you feel uneasy, maybe you will rethink using an apartment.

Looks great. Also seems to be full for October, except for two dates.

Thanks everyone, its only because its fairly new I don't see it showing up on the usual places I check. I am going to ring and have a chat with the owner and also email one or two folks on TA that have stayed there.

Yes, October 2012 seems so far off!

In case the flat doesn't work out, we stayed in a somewhat shabby place called Hotel al Sole on San Croce/Rio Nuove nearby. The people were very nice and there was a room and garden for breakfast.

It looks much nicer online-maybe they've upgraded!

Please let everyone know how it went!

Thanks TDudette, that was one of the places we had on our short list before decided to try for an apartment!! The prices in Venice have surprised us somewhat.

Will most certainly report back.

socaltraveler, brilliant, thanks so much.

When we rang we got an answering machine but have since had an email from the owner, its all looking positive and are dates are available. For Oct 2012 its 170E for the apartment for 4 of us and 35E for meet and greet. We shall make a decision in a day or two.

35 euro for meet and greet? That seems odd...if it was my place, I'd want to know who was staying there, but to charge them.....especially a year in advance....Try to negotiate that

uhoh, the owner lives in the UK so therefore pays someone to meet you and show you the apartment then inspect at departure. The 35 euro is paid to that person when we get there.

I don't think that seems unreasonable as these people are his eyes and ears on the ground and also we can call them any time if we have any queries or problems.
