Didn't mean to be "short & sweet." Most places in Ireland will take credit cards with the exception of some B&B's, who prefer cash.
Watch out for the DCC when using your credit card for purchases. It's when the merchant does the conversion for your charge from Euro into $$$. This will tack on an additional 3% to your purchase.
Ensure you are charged in Euro for each credit card transaction. If the merchant refuses, write on the receipt "local currency not offered," and refute the charges with your credit card company.

I wasn't surprised by your "short & sweet" answer considering that my question was pretty short and sweet!
Is DCC a problem with gas purchases too? I've read the other threads about it and it makes me a little nervous.

DCC is common EVERYWHERE. And, not to refute the Budman, but SOME really rural gas stations DO require cash only, but they are few and far between and mostly in off-the-beaten-path areas. You aren't generally likely to run across any such in mostly touristy areas, though.
