Budget hotel or hostel near (Edinburgh) Radisson?

Our daughter leaves next week for her semester in Scotland (University of Stirling) and will first have a few days in "orientation" at the Radisson in Edinburgh - - well, the meetings are there, but the students are told that they will be housed in nearby "budget hotels or hostels", close to the Radisson.

Our daughter is arriving one day early, since it is difficult to get to Edinburgh early in the day (leaving from Louisville, KY) and she doesn't want to risk missing the beginning of the first sessions.

Thus, she will need to book a place to stay for the first night (when she arrives, one night before they officially start). It would be a nice stroke of luck if she could stay in one of the places they are going to use (they don't provide the names) - - in fact, if it is one of the places they are using, maybe she would be allowed to stay there without moving.

Anybody know any such "budget hotels or hostels" near the Radisson in Edinburgh?

Thanks in advance for any info you can share, which might help.

Best wishes,

Rex

It would be hard to guess which hotels/hostels the university has chosen. They may say "close to the Radisson" but distances aren't that great anywhere in the central historic center of Edinburgh as it is fairly compact. The Radisson is about as central as you can get being on the High Street section of the Royal Mile. Maybe you could call the university this week and ask where the lodging is located.

Here is a general map for reference:

For a hotel, the Apex International on the Grassmarket is a good choice. You might find a good rate on their website or try laterooms.uk

For hostels, looking at this website:

http://www.edinburghguide.com/accomm...ed_hostels.htm

The High Street Hostel, Castle Rock Hostel, Cowgate Tourist Hostel, Edinburgh Backpackers Hostel and Royal Mile Hostel would be the closest to the Radisson.

Try [email protected]
We are paying 40 pounds a night for a double in late September.
You take the 44 bus (1.8 pounds all day'DAY SAVER' bus ticket)from Princes Street.

I have stayed in the Castle Rock Hostel (13 GBP a night)a few times and have found it comfortable, clean, and easily accessible to city sites. It is just a few steps off the Royal Mile, near the castle, on Johnston Terrace. From looking at the Edinburgh map, the Radisson would be a quick walk down the mile from the hostel.
Hostel details about Castle Rock, High Street, and Royal Mile hostels can be viewed at www.scotlandstophostels.com. Hope this helps!

Hi Rex,
Something hopefully helpful from an Edinburgher.....

Just to let you know, the day savers on the buses have gone up.... Now £2.50 before 9.30am, and £2 after. You also need exact change!

Your daughter's other option is University accommodation - about 20 minutes walk from Princes St. You can find info on this at http://www.edinburghfirst.com/accomm...tion_index.asp

Hope that helps somewhat...

I suspect they may be in university halls somewhere.

Try the Grassmarket Hotel. Couldn't get much closer and budget prices.

There are a couple of not-very-expensive hotels very close by. The Hotel Ibis on Hunter Square (www.accor-hotels.com) and the Bank Hotel. Also Tailor's Hall hotel and Jury's Inn are not too far. I think all of them have been reviewed here.

Thank you all very much. A nice abundance of choices - - should make it easy to pick some place.

Perhaps she could stay a day earlier in the budget hotel she has been assigned if you can check it out...HOWEVER Why not stay in the RAdisson for that one night and be right there where her meetings are taking place. They have wonderful WEEKEND rates, AAA rates etc...and might be worth it after flying all night. We stayed there last Spring and it was lovely, and the location could not be any better. Right in the middle of the Royal Mile.!!! You could explain she is a STUDENT, and has meetings there ,and they might find you a good rate.!!! It would be so convenient. It is beautiful but not air conditioned, I don't believe.
