I'll play devil's advocate. Even though the original post was several months ago, this information is still helpful to someone else who is planning a London stay and needs budget lodging recommended by those who have experienced it. I know I'm bookmarking this info for my next London trip. I would imagine with this very helpful subject title that others are too.

Kellye, I agree with you. The OPs failure to check back is irrelevent as there is a good bit of current info on budget London hotels which is a very popular topic.

Gabi's Travelodge experience mirrors mine in a number of places in the UK so failure to cite which specific TL is not that important. Surly or missing staff and phone free rooms is part of the TL ambiance. It's a cheap and bare bones sleep. End of story.

I suspect the self-appointed forum monitor will be back to register disapproval and a hand slap.

Hello, Newbie here as of today. I have been checking hotels in London for a one week stay in early
May but it's a bit confusing since there are so many to look up as far as prices, location, etc. My husband and I have never been to London and would appreciate a few hotels that anyone can think of which are close to major attractions, are in a safe area and moderately priced.
Is it better to check air/hotel packages rather than separately?

Thanks!

andigrl: welcome to Fodors.

You have tacked your question on to a year old thread - usually it is better to start a new thread of one's own because old threads often have old, out of date info.

Normally the recommendation would be to start a new thread -- But since your question is not unique and is asked a few times every day, you really don't need to start a new one. So just FYI for your next thread(s)

Since London is so spread out, no one hotel will be close to more than a very few major sites. The public transport goes everywhere. And just about all of London is perfectly safe (at least any areas visitors could find themselves.)

Before anyone can give useful advice, you need to give us your actual budget - "moderately priced" means many different things. Usually air/hotel packages do no save much if any money.

janisj..........

Thanks for your reply.

Sinse posting, I have found three hotels that seem to meet our moderate price range, which is between $200 and $250 per night.

These are the three......by any chance has anyone stayed at one of these hotels?

I might start a new thread just to get more opinions, and like you said janis, this is buried a bit.

Kensington Rooms

Enterprise Hotel

We stayed at the Park International last October, and there have been other threads regarding it. If you type the hotel name in the search box, you should get some information. Or you can click on my name and find my trip report.

Quickly, it is an unpretentious small hotel, comfortable, and nicely located for the Gloucester Road tube stop.

andigrl: since you have a rec for the Park International, I think you might grab it. We have stayed twice near the Gloucester Rd.tube station and enjoyed the area very much.

Sadly the placed we thought bearable the first visit was unbearable on the second. Rather than tourists, it had become popular with immigrants that were cooking and living in the small rooms. Do NOT stay at Oxbridge apartments.
